We loved Isla so much when we did our day trip that this year we are going there for 4 days to recover after TTR! I love the Mapchick map but you can do a pretty good tour without one. Rent a cart and go!
I love reading all the great information about Isla Mujeres. Thanks for the advice on the currency. We will change some US dollars to Pesos to take with us. I have also heard that the North Beach is a must see. Is this the beach located near Hotel Mia? Has anyone had a drink at the beach bar there? Is there a OXXO or something similar where we can buy some cold beers and a styrofoam cooler? Any other advice on golf cart rental? Book it on the ferry or wait until we get onto the island? I have seen photos of the Soggy Peso and can't wait to have a drink there. How about a place to grab something to eat? Any advice? Thanks!!
Mia Reef is right by North Beach. Never been to the beach bar there but were staying there for our wedding in 20 days. There are OXXO's and a 7-11 for beers, etc. We've been to Isla 10+ times and found it easier and cheaper to rent when you get to the island. A few great places to eat are Rubens, Mango Cafe and Bobos Fish and Chips.
We did Isla Mujeres last Friday for the first time and had a great time. Did not book a cart in advance. Got off the ferry, crossed the street and turned to the right, about a block down a rental place had a cart on the roof and rented there for $40 US. We would rent from them again. Made 2 mistakes this trip.. 1. did not get a mapchicks map but will for next time. 2. left on the 11:45 ferry to head to Isla, next time, we will be on the first ferry to get more out of the day.
I agree with the last 2 posts. Get there earlier than later, time flies!! We have always rented a cart once we get there and never had any problems. However, I go to the left when I get off the boat.
turn right from the ferry and drive you will see a drive threw beer store on the left 5 or 10 mins down on a hill side painted blue with name corona on it,,,unless i was dreaming lol...:daveandmo:
We split up one of our trips last year by checking out, leaving our suitcases with the guys out front (along with a good tip), went to the island, stayed at a hotel on Hidalgo st (kind of like Decatur st in no), came back and checked back in the next day. Btw, we booked it that way. We really enjoyed it, really comes to life at night. One of the many bars had a band playing sublime and 311 songs which was a nice change of pace. Before we only did daytime trips and had no idea about the nightlife.
