Book with a reputable agent ,,ie Expedia ect.

if you book with a re-seller,, about a week after booking confirm with the hotel if the reservation has been made , AND if the room is paid ,, reservation and payment is 2 different things.

this used to be a lot more common , but a lot less now a days due to computers and fast updates.

I almost got taken by Book it one year , thought I was getting a good deal, but the price they were giving was for Single occupancy.

Sorry Donald but what do you think Expedia is? We got screwed big time by them last November on our flights and the airlines told me I shouldn't book with them. Book with the airlines directly or find your "deal" online and take it to a travel agent. Most match online prices nowadays and if anything goes wrong they are in your corner. Your not on the phone for (in our case) literally hours and hours of screw ups, with people who don't give a shit about you after they get their money

This is not working out. We decided to change weeks to may but NOPE! Airlines don't like it when you do that. They charge you 225.00 PP to change.

April is notoriously overbooked but August is not. I wouldn't be concerned.

yeah I remember that ,, but that was bad service , in this instance its fraud , some one was sold a room when the provider did not have a contract to fulfill.

I've booked with Expedia. And never had any problems. . I would call the hotel to confirm they got the reservation..

This is a really horrible situation and I'm afraid one for which there is probably no decent solution. I can tell everyone from experience(former career in the travel business)that while online booking agencies are a very useful tool, they are not what I would suggest be used to actually confirm the transaction. Instead, a real live person at a walk-in agency is always best. These people likely have been where your going or have a trusted colleague who has. Secondly, these agencies cannot risk using unreliable means to confirm transactions. The risk to their business is just too great. Of course this does not eliminate the possibility of errors, but does drastically reduce it. Bottom line is use the web to search out prices and educate yourself but when it comes time to book. Do it with an agency who stands to lose if you lose.

I hope karma works in your favor soon and you have a great vacation. Wherever that ends up being!!
