We are leaving in 11 days.

We were figuring about $30/CAD for tips per day. We would bring pesos for this which is about $4,400 pesos. Does this sound like enough?

We need some USD for the Boob Cruise, but what else might we need USD for? Are the rest of the tours, such as dolphin swim and ATV tours payable by credit card? We really don't want to bring that much cash and being Canadian we never carry cash, only plastic, so it is a bit foreign to us.

We booked all of our excursions last year in advance online so I only used my credit card at the airport and to check into the resort, but all the major places you would want to go will take cards, just don't forget to tell your credit card company that you'll be in Mexico for the week so that your transactions don't get denied.

Bring cash for shopping off the resort, taxi and or bus service, and tipping. I'd say the average for tipping would be around $30 to $50 USD a day at the resort, but everyone is different, some way more, some way less. I had a really bad winter for work at all three of my jobs...I'm self employed and all of them are based on real estate and the weather, private commercial snow plowing being one of them (we barely got any snow this winter) so I just budgeted $40 USD a day for tips.

I'd suggest to bring at least a couple hundred extra dollars for everything else you want to do and and buy, more if you plan on doing a lot of off resort shopping, or if you want to buy photos from the professional photographers at the resort, or the people selling things off the beach...all of those prices are very negotiable too and cash is king, so be ready to haggle a bit for each transaction.

Looks like we will need to increase the tips amount. Thanks :)

We will bring limited USD then. That makes it much easier.

After reading Unicorn's post I did the math and I am at a minimum of $30USD per day and I am afraid to do the math to see what my maximum is!!! I get pretty generous when I am down there. At $30CDN you are definitely in the ball game, like Unicorn said some give much less and some much more.
You can use your credit card almost everywhere, they do have ATM's in case you run out of cash also. I would bring a few extra dollars in case you see a shirt you want, a sarong for the wife, massage on the beach, off resort drinks, lunch or whatever...
    Have fun!!!

Stacia hits the bank and changes a Benjamin each trip and she makes sure that it goes to the server staff and our maid each day, every day. I've never thought to ask if they "pool" the tip-out or each gets what they get, but if my server during the day is primarily Eme (Wish he'd not been terminated, btw, great guy) he'd get a $3 or a $5 right out of the gate, and if we stay down there drinking most of the day probably more. Not that it's a lot, but it IS every single day.

Ummm... sometimes the bar service dudes cut into the maid's cash... it happens...

Is a "Benjamin" like one of our Canadian brown bills? ;)

Yeah but it's worth more. We usually do about $300 to $400 US for the week we're there we also pack a few little knick knacks for the girls that clean our room as a little treat for them.
