I tried to do that for some friends before. The only way to do it was to cancel your existing reservation and book as a referral. If you are there under an rci exchange that would probably still apply. Also the dates you are there was sold out for Referrals last I looked.
We significantly bettered the referral price when booking TTR along with Air by using expedia......in fact we got another day/night at a cost less than the referral rate offered! The referral rate is significantly better than the resorts rate. ......but......you need to shop around. In fact we canceled and rebooked today using Expedia when they lowered rates. We did buy trip insurance previously which allowed us to cancel and rebook. Do your homework and you can save significant dollars!
