I am an expert Patron Girl and can't hang with the cheap stuff. Should I plan on buying my own at the liquor store?

The last time we were there I hadn't fell in love with tequila yet so I drank Vodka!

Another vodka/water/mio couple here, as do lots of our friends. Get a little hydration, tastes good, and you aren't loading up on sugar like other drinks which is part of the hangover killer. Mix in some plain waters in there too and you'll be legit. Also drink water before going to sleep.

Maybe things have changed but last time I was in Cancun, Patron was nowhere to be found. Local stores told us it was only bottled for export to the states and elsewhere. Thankfully there are other 100% agave tequilas to fill the gap. My wife loves the cold Patron as well but was fine with other top shelf choices.

As lots of people have said. The key is to keep hydrated. Lots of water, less sugars, and pace yourself. Water before bed and emergen-c in the morning. Switching it up seemed to help me. Vodka and cran, screwdrivers, rye and ginger, etc.
    Hth.

In my last few trips over a couple of years Patron is available at the duty free at the airport, as well as any local liquor store. It is about $5-10 cheaper then it is in the states. Not a bad idea to get a bottle for your room. Remember to being a shaker to chill it (if you like it that way).

They actually have Milagro Silver at the resort for everyone. I think it is pretty good, you just have to ask for it by name. If you just say tequila, they will give you the cheap stuff or Jose Cuervo.

    Breakfast: Coffee with Amaretto
AM Warmup drinks: Beer and Clamato / Bloody Mary / Caesar
Afternoon: Anything(everything?) with the occasional Vodka Soda to re-hydrate
    Early Evening: Margarita/Mojito/Michelada/chelada
Rest of the night: Shots and Tequila Fresca (No sugar)

Finishing the nights with non-sugar drinks seems to have saved me from any hangovers last trip.

If you are going as a referral they will give you bottled water at the Premier bar, whenever I realize how much I have been drinking I will have a couple of those. Probably 6-10 bottles a day, I will usually take a few back to the room through the day as well to make sure we don't run out at night.

I'm a really light drinker at home, so I have to be careful. I stick with small cups so I have to keep running back and forth to the bar. I stick to shots a lot of the time so there's no extra sugar or unpredictable combos. I also dance like a maniac at night and switch to water pretty early so I can work the booze out of my system before I go to bed.

    Booze without Regrets

The trick really is water throughout the day. I do 2 drinks, then a water or juice. I also avoid beer as it tends not to blend well with all the tequila or vodka. I can get a good buzz going early and maintain it all day with our approach. Hangovers are incredibly rare, as are being a part of the "Shit Show" at 5:00 - unless I get a bit too buzzed and forget my handy guide to not getting plastered drunk. Yeah, it happens, and that's OK too.

Other tricks of the trade (after 10 trips there, we've learned):
This is big: PACE YOURSELF ON DAY 1 - or you will get the dreaded "Day 1 Curse". You have to ease into it, at least for 1 day. Then, you're golden for the rest of your trip. There was a suggestion to start drinking a couple of days before you get here - not a bad idea, unless you have to drive 5 hours to the airport and have a 7 hour flight. Then, that sucks.

Breakfast: have some cheese, they always have a tray of it out at the buffet. Same in the evening. The fats in the cheese help out with processing alcohol - or so I think. Whatever, it works for me. On the topic of food, don't miss lunch either. Food good.

Mornings: Tequila sunrises or margaritas (vitamins and minerals) for me, wife has vodka / cranberry juice - "Cranberry Sky"

Afternoons: Tequila / vodka whatever, shots in the pool (whatever is being served at the moment). The Temptations drink is good too. I avoid the frozen drinks - brain freeze and a buzz don't work well together - except the occasional "cabanya" - it's something made with bananas.

Evenings / Nights: Yeah, how about some more tequila / vodka whatevers or shots that are being passed around. And some more cheese or fries from the Paty'O buffet.

Either way - pick your poison and have a blast. If you're getting shots, get 20 and make some new friends. If someone is walking around with a stack of shots, get one and make some new friends.
