I always wonder about how much weight can be concentrated in one building footprint in that area. The reason is, the entire area has a limestone base, and the same water that made the Cenotes or cool underground caves like Alux down in Playa del Carmen had to create similar structures underground throughout the entire Yucatan. There has to be enormous pockets and voids that are unknown. I'm sure the big, high-rise hotels have deep footings, but all the small, slab-on-grade operations like TTR would be more subject to heaving and cracking from underground shifts. It makes me wonder about just adding floors to the existing structure. I don't think they have many, but an earthquake in this neighborhood could get ugly with much of their construction methods.

been there about 40 years , never noticed cracks ( I,m observant) , don't think an extra floor will hurt ,, but,,,,, the Premier people told me they can.t rent the rooms out till they put in elevators to conform to building codes

Maybe they don't have as many crack problems also because they don't have to deal with the yearly freeze / thaw cycle. That would be nice!

I know Stephie and I are pretty damn frozen and ready to thaw in a few weeks. (Better inspect her for cracks again! lol) Had to push snow for an hour and a half yesterday again.

I'm with you Don. I am very observant about all aspects of a building because I do insurance loss control work and property condition assessments for the commercial real estate industry and you can't just turn that kind of thing off. The buildings appear quite sound to me and should be able to handle another floor without issue. Besides, even though it's Mexico, I'm sure they have architects and engineers designing the addition. As for elevators, we would welcome them wholeheartedly if for no other reason than to keep our ladies in stiletto heels safe.

I've seen many cracks around the complex, mostly around the sexy pool area... wait, what... oh, never mind then.
