OMG so very sorry to read this, Tina and I were so happy to meet you, glad he is on the mend and getting better, I have a restricted esophagus I could not imagine one that was ruptured.
Having just gone through a travel insurance seminar I will warn everyone about a little clause in most. Alcohol related injuries and or health problems might not be covered. The agency I work for does have that clause in it. So everyone who gets it should make sure that there coverage is good for this.
Other words used ,,, '' Pre existing conditions'' not covered , unless deemed and cleared to be stable by your doctor. other frequent clause '' Extreme sports'' may include Sky diving,, Scuba diving , Para sailing, Bungie Jumping , Zip Lining, ect. It is cheap,, I get a yearly policy for 100 PP covers $2,000,000.00 for medical, and luggage and cancellation due to Medical or Family death,, ( TD Insurance),, Also a lot of the Travel cards have coverage . Don't assume because you paid the premium your pre Existing issues are covers .
Tip don't get insurance for the full cost of trip but recommend some to help if there are delays with luggage, or weather, this will keep costs down. This is true all the policy's I looked at stated if legally intoxicated, In Mexico, one is legally allowed to drink at 18 years old and the legal level of intoxication is having a blood alcohol content of 0.08 percent, there is no coverage. Make sure to get primary insurance not secondary insurance coverage otherwise they will make you pay up front and then you get the hassle of getting the claim paid. Note to self sober up before you call anyone for help. T
Ive often read and wondered about this, I am a 2 years removed from lung cancer surgery, My scans for the last year have been clean, so what do they deem stable? I have Blue Cross and they have a Bluecard worldwide program that covers me when I am out of the country, they even have an app that lets you find in network doctors and hospitals. Might be worth checking into if you have BLue Cross Blue Shield. It doesn't cover anything with my trip, but gives me medical coverage which is most important.
''stable'' will vary policy to policy , best to check, and get your answer in writing, if you have any issues that are debatable.
Esophageal Ruptures are often due to significant vomiting after having excessive alcohol consumption. This is exacerbated by being on Plavix due to it being a blood thinner. Plavix itself doesn't cause esophageal ruptures. I don't know of any documented cases of spontaneous esophageal rupture due to Plavix. Furthermore, there is no "erosion" of the esophagus noted from Plavix in any of the medical literature. If a person is older with a history of CABG surgery with multiple cardiac stents, late nights and drinking are HIGHLY risky. This is especially true due to their poor health status and being on a blood thinner such as Plavix. It is doubtful that "traveler insurance" would cover this problem. Incidentally, Attila the Hun was speculated to have this as his cause of death. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boerhaave_syndrome
I always get it for my trips to Mexico. Hey you never know especially me. Too drunk, stumble, mess myself up. Never know.
