Here comes the rain!!! Sorry to rain on everybody's parade but I hated it. We went to Tulum because the other place was too far. We were in a mini-van with 3 other couples. The ride was ok, we had beer! Our tour guide spent way too much time talking about each ruin that it became very boring. The beach was very nice but we only had an hour. The trip was like a boring whirlwind. Drive, ruins, beach, eat, drive back. Seemed like a wasted day, we could have had much more fun at TTR, Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, downtown on our own, anywhere but this tour. Just my 2 cents.
All Thanks! Thank so much for taking the time to give me feedback. We are spending a few days on Isla "recovering" after TTR. Love Isla! Not sure which way we will go, but all of your input has been really helpful.
Maybe you will get " Lucky " and see Justin Bieber acting like a jackass like we did in Jan at the Tulum ruins!artytime:
If you are willing to make a day of it we went to another Ruins called Ek Balam. Its about as far away as Chichen Itza so its a long day, but we really like the Ruins. You can still climb the main building and go in/on most of the others. We booked the tour through tour through the link here, not cheap but it was a very good day. Its the Ruins, bike ride to a cenote to swim and then you head into town for lunch. We had our driver recommend a restaurant and it was excellent.
We are thinking about going here on this trip.... El Rey Ruins Stay closer to the coast with a visit to the El Rey Ruins. Located in the heart of Cancun’s Hotel Zone, the Mayan ruins at El Rey are made up of 47 ancient stone structures, including several platforms and temples that are believed to have once been used for religious ceremonies. The El Rey Ruins are named after a ceremonial mask and skull honoring the Mayan Sun God that was unearthed at the site. As you explore the ruins at El Rey, keep an eye out for the giant iguanas that now inhabit the site. A few miles outside Cancun’s Hotel Zone you’ll find the El Meco Ruins, a smaller group of Mayan ruins consisting of 13 structures organized around a central temple.
Who did you happen to book this with if you don't mind me asking. That was the one thing about Chichen Itza that I wish we could have done, it was great to see but you couldn't get up and personal like I was hoping to, missed being able to walk along the ball court as well as the archeological society had it closed to the public as they were in the midst of restoring parts of it.
You can no longer climb the "pyramid" or walk the ball court at CI? Doing so was what was making me lean in that direction.
You Cannot climb the ruins at either Tulum or Chichen Itza. For the sake of Honesty- We didn't actually witness Justin Beiber being escorted out of the Tulum Ruins, we got there about 2 hrs after he left. However the whole place was abuzz with tales of his visit! Apparently He showed with with a 30+ plus entourage, tried to enter the ruins with beer ( didn't really think that wasn't allowed). He was quite belligerent with the staff when they made him toss his drink. He then proceeded to climb on the ruins ( which are all roped off) and moon the other guests/staff. I guess they called the Police, at which time he left.
