We will be at TTR for 10 days and would like to go off the resort once or twice to eat. In the past we have been to the Taco Factory for lunch. It is located in the Coco Bongo area. It is on that street that runs perpendicular to the two main streets if that makes sense. We have also been to the Crab House overlooking the lagoon. Both places have awesome food!!!! I totally recommend stopping by. Taco Factory is a little authentic Mexican joint. Lunch will cost about $10 including beer!! The Crab House is a fancy more expensive place but the food is excellent plus they took us in our beach wear so it is not snooty!! Has anybody been to a restaurant off the resort that they recommend? We are not looking for Senor Frogs, Hooters or any other big chains. Thanks in advance!
We've asked the staff in the past what restaurants they recommend. We figure they live there and know the best places to eat, and we've not been disappointed. Usually it's just a short cab ride into the town of Cancun for some authentic food that is priced well. It's never towards a chain type place in the hotel zone though.
I would strongly recommend you walk out of the resort, cross the street and walk about 200 feet to your left, just past the ESSO store. There is a local shop there that makes the best fresh quesadillas. Basically anything you order is $1. There is a fresh taco shop right along side it. Definitely worth checking it out.
Thats awesome to hear! We are making our first ever trip to TTR, and we weren't quite sure what to expect around the resort. At many all-inclusives we have stayed before, we were advised not to leave the resort. Good to know there are decent dining options off the resort that aren't too far away!
Oh yea you can defiantly leave this resort and walk up and down the streets if you want. Even the $1 bus out front is fine to take around. Some local standing on corners will ask you if you want a cab, when you say no they might ask you if you want "anything else". Probably smart to say no to that one too.
Cab OK... Something else, probably not the greatest idea. But by all means feel free to venture out. Go for a morning walk! And the taco place across the street idea above is great too!
If you want to venture out for great authentic Mexican food, I highly recommend La DestilerĂa. Get their Molcajete....it is amazing! La DestilerĂa - You can hop on the bus for around $1 a person. It's very safe. La Destileria, Cancun - Restaurant Reviews, Phone Number & Photos - TripAdvisor
There used to be one of those Argentinian grills across the street but I think that's closed now and it was really good. We had a bottle of wine and it was also all you can eat and think the total bill worked out to be like $70 for the two of us that's in US or one month's mortgage payment in Canadian.....just kidding. We've also taken the bus and to tell you the truth I felt safer on that bus, than I have on some of the routes here at home....
