so I have a prepaid plan and hubs has a work phone neither one will work when we go to the resort has anyone rented a phone or bought a disposable phone just to use on vacation ? how did it work for you ? thanks bevy
If you can get a cheap T-mobile phone, they have fairly cheap international plans. I paid $65 for 6 GB of international data and unlimited minutes and text. Plus I could use it as a wi-fi hotspot if my wife wanted to connect her phone or ipad to the internet.
You can buy a 'throwaway' phone at any convenience store for about 200 pesos ($12 USD) which comes with credit (not sure how much), then you can buy top ups as needed. It might not be cheap to call International but you could give people at home the number and have them call you.
last time we were there I don't remember seeing any at the store across the street do we need to go further out to get one ?
We just use or regular phone 40$ cad for 200 text unlimited receive and end 60 min calls. Never busted and work fine akways call my moms in the middle of our trip Sent from my E6653 using Tapatalk
We have a phone which we paid to unlock ($50 Canadian or about $0.50 US lol). We order a Mexican sim card for it. Works great and no hidden or unknown costs.
be ready to laugh at me but my phone doesn't have a sim card .. I have a really old motarola something .. and the only reason I have this new of a phone is my last one died I hate techy things , and don't want to go to a new phone with a high monthly rate for our week a few times in mexico hubs work phone is locked no way around it so we were looking on line to rent one .. but someone said pick up a disposable in mexico but not sure where to find them ....
Anyone ever gotten one of those boingo internet plans? We are staying at a different resort with our three kids which equals 6 devices. If we got the resort wifi that would be 85 each for the week, yikes. I know, leave the devices at home but if it keeps the kids even slightly occupied for a part of the day so mom and dad can have a quiet drink then I am getting the damn wifi plan lol. But not at 85 each. Was hoping the boingo thing I saw mentioned on other boards is a prepaid wireless you can use on multiple devices???
sounds good , but accessing the internet from multiple devices simultaneously on ONE device , would be sketchy , even here. would be good for randomly accessing just a thought
If you are Canadian and with Rogers, they have a plan $10 per day unlimited text/talk and you can use the data that comes with your monthly plan. However, the thing that I like about TTR is that I put my phone in the safe on day 1 and take it out at the end of the trip. It is so nice to unplug and not hear, beeps, bips, rings, buzzes etc coming from my phone. But that's just me.
