It's safe. Depends how many bags you have. Taxi is easier than managing multiple bags on a bus, but more expensive. At Walmart there is a 'sitio' (taxi rank) by the exits. You'll get a much cheaper taxi price if you flag one down by the bus stop

Not sure if there's another Walmart but we found it on the way back from Market 28. A big flea market if you're into that sort of thing. You'll know you're at the real Market 28 as the signs will be in English and Spanish. Oh and there was a guy at the front door of the Walmart who will gladly help you with the high price of things he'll be more than happy to give you $250 US for about 4 hours of your time.

When we travel with just carryon luggage we usually make a trip for sunscreen, shampoo..etc. and booze for the room. We like to take a taxi, they drop us off wait for us and bring us back to the hotel for like $30.

    Bravo!!!

Every time I travel I try to just do a carryon but I can never seem to make it!! I start with one pair of shoes, then two, three next thing you know I'm at six!!! Then on to pants, well I need my beige pants, a pair of jeans, definitely black pants, beach pants, once again I get up to 6-7. Shirts, well a different shirt for each day, another different shirt for each night plus some extras so I have choices, so we usually land up at 20 or so in this category. Since I'm there for 7 days I need 7 pairs of black socks and 7 pairs of tan/beige socks because I don't know what I'll be wearing each night. And this goes on for hats, belts, underwear etc...
So what is your secret??? I need to know, I drive myself insane each trip!!!

There's also a Chedraui that is closer. We took a cab early afternoon and had no issues. They're more of a grocery store but have all kinds of other things as well.

First of all who packs 14 pairs socks on their trip to Cancun!!? Maybe a couple of pairs to wear in shoes for dinner or at night but 14 pairs!!? LOL This our 7th trip coming up in April and one thing we learned was that half the stuff we were bringing for just in case we decide to wear it, never gets worn! I always end up wearing the same 1 or 2 pairs of shoes at night and all of my outfits can be rolled up to the size of a fist lol Hubby usually takes 1 or 2 jeans, white pants and the rest shorts. Most days the shirts are only worn for an hour or 2, long enough to eat so there's no need to have a different shirt for every day, they are hardly worn. Worst case scenario... send it out to get cleaned. We've used the cleaners at the resort and usually get shirts back within 1 day.. 2 at the most.

just for comparison the bus fare for the same trip will cost about $2.00 However like others have noted the bus is usually more crowded & you may have to wait 2 or 3 minutes at the bus stop for it to arrive. Personally I'm on vacation & enjoy mingling with the locals. The same Walmart bus will take you to Market 28 which is just a few blocks away.

I'd feel perfectly safe on the bus no doubt but when hands full with shopping bags and the bus packed with people it's worth $30 to get there as quick and comfortable as possible lol
