This is our 3 rd trip. TTR has definitely become a look forward to trip in our household. Went thru Expedia and flying AA r/t. One twist is we are flying thru MIA. Never been thru that airport. We have a 55 minute connection time period to jump planes going to TTR ...hope that will not be a problem. Coming back we have 2 hour and 20 minutes connection time... hoping Immigration and Customs and TSA recheck works under a hour and half... would like to buy a sandwhich and drink before our last leg... Anyone experienced with MIA airport and AA flights going thru that airport please comment... See ya'll at the sexy pool in August...
We are in Miami. Connection going down shouldn't be a problem, as there is no customs or anything. Coming back, I'd still say that 2:20 is enough time. It usually takes less than 1 hour to get through customs. Have fun!
On one trip we flew from Charlotte NC to Cancun on AA via Miami, the connection time was same as yours 55 min - it all depends on what gates/terminal your incoming and outgoing fights are at. With us it was a flat out run between terminals and we barely made the Cancun flight !!! YMMV - good luck
@tw1mempho - FYI - American Airlines now uses Miami International Airport's new North Terminal(Concorse D) as its Latin American and Caribbean hub so on your (international)Cancun flight legs you will be flying in and out from there.
MIA is one of our least fav airports in the world. The workers and checkpoint process is lethargically slow Similiar experience years ago when connecting on the way to Heineken Regatta in St Martin. We had about an hour layover and assumed we had plenty of time. 2 different airlines and 2 different terminals. Before we knew it we were forced into doing the O.J. sprint/hurdles thru terminals and stampedeing down the jetway. We just made it on the aircraft as the fuselage door was closed right behind us. We spent take-off still gasping and catching our breath. Ever since then when faced with connecting thru MIA we always allow at least 2hrs. And we have never noticed a real improvement over the years. When we can we just try to avoid that airport.
The days are slowly clicking off the calendar ... Daylight saving times hits a month from now... one more landmark on the calendar to check off...
