Our room was passion suite 1111 which is the one on the end of the building closest to the pool. I could actually have 'fun' with the mrs in the shower and look out the window at the pool party to be sure i wasn't missing anything lol. She couldn't, she is too short. Pics of the room... Bathroom area One disappointing item we found out at check-in was the resort was only at 40% occupied Tuesday. They indicated it would rise about 10% each day to about 80% for the weekend but we like the party so were a little disappointed that a resort with 120 or so rooms would have such little occupancy. However, we knew we had all our friends coming from TTR to try RM so the party would definitely not be non-existent.
Desire RM has several seating options. They have lounge chairs poolside and beachside, cabana beds poolside and beachside, day beds poolside and swinging queen size beds beachside. All were available at 11am Tuesday. We wanted direct sun so we choose some chairs poolside. There is a towel hut at the end of the pool. Visit the hut and tell the attendant where you want to sit. If you are not sure have him show you some options. If you prefer beach seating there are towels and an attendant near the beach bar. Wander around that area and he will approach you. Although every option was available we tipped him $10. We were not sure if availability would be less closer to the weekend. Last trip on Friday and Saturday nothing was available except premier chairs and premier cabana beds. By tipping in advance the pool attendant saw us wandering out late and gave us one of the premier cabana beds. So tipping is by no means required but it can help Another favorite about the Desire RM pool is the service is incredible. If you don't want to get up then you don't have to. Consistent reliable chair side service. Or you can walk 20-40 feet to the main bar which never had a wait or hop in the water and use the pool bar which by the way, just like the TTR sexy pool, is a good spot to meet new people as people congregate in that location. Not to the same extreme as TTR but because the music and entertainment isn't overbearing it is almost easier to strike up a conversation with others. The other plus of the poolside service is the staff to guest ratio is crazy good. You really are never waiting for anything. After some drinks we took Darin & Melissa on a tour. The beach is nicer than TTR, skinny though. Not as large as Pearls beach but plenty of cabana beds. The ones closest to the pool area are reserved for the passion suites and junior suites. Not many people in them this trip and we like to socialize so we barely used ours. There are also some lounge chairs on the beach side of the pool next to volleyball. This pic from our balcony shows them... Didn't take any pics of the populated beach area with the beds of course due to the people being naked factor Further down the beach is a great beach bar just feet from the ocean. This is a true beach experience. Following the beach bar are some cabanas reserved for premier members then cabanas right on the ocean for the regular folks and a second row just a few feet behind that are cabana beds on ropes, so they are more like swings. It is pretty awesome lying next to the ocean on a bed that swings feeling the ocean breezes. Next we showed them the lobby bar area. This is where the evening entertainment is. Think 9 to 11pm. Usually a show. It is open air like patty o's but it receives much more air so doesn't get as hot but of course can still get hot, it is Mexico after all. There is a nice bar and some loungy areas. Great for chatting, meeting new people, pre gaming before the party gets turned up a notch. Here are some lobby bar area pics. The bar is the structure straight ahead with the hay rough. Next on the tour was the disco which is above the lobby check in area on the second floor. You can go up the winding staircase in the lobby or there are outside steps also. Disco time is usually 11pm until 12:30 or 1 or 2 depending on the crowd. Some nights the music was a little repetitive for our tastes. We like edm and one night we got it. But it is more typical that they play to the crowd which either meant too much pit bull for our tastes or on the weekend a very Latin flair as a lot of people were visiting from Latin America and Mexico. But the disco is very upscale, air conditioned, plenty of seating, nice lighting and an easily accessible nicely staffed bar. Off of the disco in a semi private room is the playroom. Porn on the tvs, plenty of couches and clean linens, and a sex swing, hmmmm. We have not partaken in the playroom but we have peeked in from time to time Next stop on the tour is my favorite spot. The jacuzzi. It is on the second floor of the building to the left if you are facing the lobby from the lobby bar area. The jacuzzi is a good size. Smaller than the Pearl jacuzzi. But better in my opinion as the size is conducive to conversation and a better party. There is a bar that can be accessed from within the jacuzzi or from land. There are cubbies to store your stuff. And day beds which typically are used for adult fun (more on that later) maybe 15- 20 feet away from the main crowd in the jacuzzi and futon like beds only 5 feet away from the jacuzzi party. Best of all the jacuzzi looks out over the ocean. Paradise. Here are some pictures... Futons for 'fun' to the left of the jacuzzi And of course the bar... After the tour we returned to the pool and just enjoyed the day. There is an open air buffet restaurant right next to the pool and pool bar. They have a grill also where you can order steak, chicken, grouper, etc Our daily routine was fresh grilled grouper. Amazing. The buffet is not your typical buffet. Very fresh. Very high quality options that rotate daily. You can also order whatever you want from your waiter and they will make it in the kitchen for you. One day I asked for chorizo for example. Our favorite entertainment staff ever in all our visits to Ttr, pearl and rm was chinos (duh that is easy right) and second was close between the Pearl team and when Ttr had the Nathan/Sara/forgetting the other girls name combo. Just like Ttr, rm has had high turnover recently with their entertainment staff. Sara 69s boyfriend is actually working there and just like the current Ttr staff they try hard but not always funny. Rm is a more chill day party so I understand how it could be difficult to find the appropriate line between raunchy hard core party where u call people out and make fun of them to try to get them to join in (had never seen this in a prior Desire trip but saw it sadly some Tuesday) and simply supplementing the party... present the options, if people want to participate then great, if not fine too. There are plenty of options if u feel like exercising including yoga under the gazebo feet from the water at 10:30am (time has varied based on trip), beach volleyball at 11am (did not participate this trip for the first time, it was hot plus it seemed like we were always busy with something else), corn hole setup on the beach and water volleyball around 3pm. Each day has a main event too. Tuesday is the pool party where the dj plays more clubby music (which we like) and the entertainment crew throws in the pool a bunch of floats, dances around and pours shots. It was fun but it isn't like the Ttr sexy pool party. Good supplement to the more reserved sexy type of party desire offers. But if you want the spring break style party then probably best to stick with Ttr. We met some nice folks but mostly hung with Darin & Melissa. It was great catching up with old friends and enjoying the spoils of desire.
Again awesome write-up. I do like the idea of less menu items and that "fresher taste" that accompanies it (which is true for pretty much true at any decent restaurant). I have been surprisingly happy with what TTR has to offer though, and over the last few trips I think it has even gotten better, or maybe I am just more in-the-know of the best options. The pictures are great, but with all those areas do you think it would ever feel like there wasn't enough people, even when the resort is at 80+%?
During the day the action and people are more spread out. But in the evening and night the group kind of flows to where the fun is... jacuzzi to dinner to lobby bar to disco to jacuzzi and then back to our room (just kidding on the last part, mostly)
Love your trip report! Desire RM has been on our list since we ended up hanging out with a big group from there on the way to and from the marina for our Booze Cruise and their Nude Cruise. Even though we were invited to join it was a missed opportunity to upgrade our cruise since we had only brought enough money for tips and IM.
