The airlines definitely come up with some crazy routes that are definitely not based on passenger convenience. However, take a look at one-way flights. We have had some luck with that and got very good flight options on our latest trip... Got into CUN before noon, and leave for home at about 2pm.
You should try pricing out of Cedar Rapids (CID), DSM is super high. We book Cancun between 250-400 round trip every time. Typically, we fly out at 6:00 and arrive in Cancun before noon. Last month we booked NYC roundtrip for 149.00. DSM has gotten to expensive but every once in a while you can find a deal.

Maybe but at least you have some other options for the next time. I'd check though you never know and the worst that can happen is you learn you have to keep the flights you already have.
No luck with flight change. I called the airline directly and they said it would be fine to change but then had system errors completing...because I booked with Travelocity. Travelocity said it would could me $400 a person to change my flight. Wow! Lesson learned, I will never use Travelocity for package booking again. We will just have to make the best of it.
You might have some luck by going to the airline desk when you arrive in Houston and asking if they can put you on stand by for an earlier flight.
Exactly what I was thinking. I'll send the hubby to see if he can sweet talk the ladies. I'm currently bidding on rental cars so that we have the option of doing some driving around while there.
Well I live in Houston, and a bunch to do in the area. Keep in mind though that depending on when your flight comes in, traffic can/will be a nightmare. Unless a weekend. Lots to do in the area though. The mall, dining, etc. Not sure of your times.
