I know my "disgusting" comment probably made you a little nervous. I should have rephrased it a little. I guess I was just a little upset this year when we left. We had some major issues in our bathroom this year. It was upsetting because we even upgraded this year so we could get a better room. Our room by Patyos last year was terrible! We both came home with upper respiratory infections because of the mildew and mold in our room. This year we had yellowish water that flooded our bathroom. We've been 4 times and don't get me wrong we LOVE it! But we love it for the atmosphere and the amazing friends we've made. I guess the past couple of years we've been very unlucky when it comes to our room the hotel as a whole is clean! The staff does an amazing job! Take the pool for instance. When we leave in the afternoon you can hardly see the bottom. By the next day it's crystal clear! Our room wasn't dirty, and Sylvia our maid did a fantastic job. It's not the cleanliness that bothers me, because it is clean, it's just outdated and in major need of renovations. That's what bothers me! So that's why I said we wouldn't be back until they update some things.
Don't want to beat a dead horse, because most people have already made all the important points, but adding another opinion may make you feel more or less at ease. I have had 3 rooms in 3 different locations over the past 2 years. None of them were dirty at all, and none of them had bugs. Now I did see bugs in the hall, but what do you expect when people leave their dirty plates all over the hallways. The bathroom was cleaned very well every day. Our best room was on my second trip(when we had a Jacuzzi first floor room around the quiet pool), again it was not dirty at all. But that trip I did have a bad cough(could be mold, or it could be all the drinking, sharing of things I would not normally share with people, or the excessive smoking). So for my 3rd trip we took Lysol and sprayed it around the room and in the AC in/out vents. We had zero respiratory issues that trip, which is actually quite amazing since I develop them regularly when I go to the beach at home every other weekend. As with any hotel anywhere, you could get that one room that isn't very good(location or cleanliness). Maybe the maid was rushed or they just did a crappy job for whatever reason. Or maybe you just got bad luck and you got an undesirable room location. Easiest solution is just to make sure you like the room first, before you unpack your stuff and then start the bitching. And just to say it again, yes the resort could use some updates. Don’t expect a prestigious 5 years old hotel. The place is 3 stars, and comes with the 3 star price tag. People are amazed when I tell them it is 2500 for 2 people 8 nights all-inclusive in Sept with direct flights. Comparing the place to a 5 star isn't fair. I stayed at the Grand Royal in Playa, it was amazing, and so clean you could eat off the lobby floor. Seemed like there was 1 worker for every 2 people. The place also came at a premium at $5500+ for 7 nights. Great for a honeymoon, wouldn't go back again. And I have never been disappointed with the food at TTR(and I grew up Italian with a dad that was a professional chef). Can you compare the food to going out to eat at a high end restaurant in which you will spend $150+(without drinks) for 2 people...NO. But it is defiantly very good for an all-inclusive resort.
I will enforce the suggestion about taking Lysol but it's not just this resort its for any. Spray/wipe any surface you will touch when you first get there. It takes approximately 12-24 hours for a hotel room to be colonized with your own unique brand of bacteria. Once it does that location is now an identical microbiome to your own home. Basically you wipe out any trace of previous visitors within that time. That is the completion of today's science lesson, there will be a quiz at Diego's bar shortly
Another thing I like to bring on my trip is a couple of roll's of two way tape and outline the bed an luggage with it just in case of bed bugs and after all my trips thank God no bugs ....
We have caught a couple ladies sneaking around the bed this way. Works like a charm. Then they can't escape or perform a sneak attack as the tape captures them every time
This pretty much says it all. We have read several if not all the posts about TTR and it's room issues and were prepared to do what was necessary to get a good room. The first one they gave us was great, in the 5000 block, king bed, double shower, rm 5321, somewhat across from the old Cigar Bar. We thought the resort was clean and in great shape compared to what we read about it on CCC and were expecting much worse. The food and it's presentation was great and and to our liking. We are not picky or fussy about things that are out of our control and just roll with it. I agree the place needs updating but hope it doesn't get too big and loose it's charm when it's updated/remolded. For what we paid $2159 for 10 days with airfare from CT, not direct flights but very short almost too short of a layover when going through Customs we could not complain. WE WILL BE BACK AGAIN. T
We on cancuncare like to under-promise and over-deliver....keeps the negative reviews away lol Can't wait to see you guys again next year
As with any hotel or room ,, I chuck the bed spread in the Corner and they send it out to be cleaned . Great idea, I'll be doing that next trip in 20 days Bring a large can of Lysol ( mold killer) . I have a case of travel size ones- got the idea from you
