As members for some unknown reason we agreed to a presentation on our last trip (May)...lets just say I have heard more truth from a shister lawyer, lol. Skip the breakfast BS and set a time at the office...the time share guy takes about an hour to get his food and eat as he is too busy flapping his gums, lol. Once in the office give it an hour for them to present the spiel and give you $ values for the various things they present. Avoid the Lloyds thing speech it is a scam based out of Panama and they try to make it sound like it is affiliated with Lloyd's of London. Also some of the stuff about Air credits and discounts are hard to do from Canada unless you live in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver...we found cheaper prices directly from the airlines (just over $200 cheaper than their discounted prices). If you are firm about not buying in give it about 15 minutes to try and escape assuming you are trying to be polite, lol. I asked our guy for a few minutes to discuss things privately, he got rude and pretty much told us to leave. Rather loudly called him a F'ing asshole and a liar. Even the bartender told us later he was a jerk (was being polite to keep his job). We did register a complaint and dissed him by name to other guests during the rest of our stay. We screwed his whole day (they work mornings only) by taking a 9:00am breakfast meeting (just over an hour) then about a 90 minute sales pitch with numbers thrown, called him out on a few things, listened to his rebuttal and then asked for a few minutes alone, that's when he got rude...we lost 2 hours 45 minutes of our morning and wasted his time and he didn't get a dime We celebrated our victory and mourned our lost sexy pool time with a few (strong) quick drinks and a shot (or 2?) of tequila. We know we aren't buying in. We know we can always get a better deal booking on our own. We are going with friends through a referral week this time because we got a super good seat sale, but the price for 7 days was still almost exactly what we paid for 10 days in January. Anyway, just want to get in and out of the sale pitch as quick as we can without it taking up too much time. Thanks for the tips!
No Problem... about an hour will get your friends the presentation bonus and stop you guys from having to pay the difference between rack rate and referral rate. Heard rumours that's what they have started doing if you no show for the presentation. If you know you aren't going to buy let them feed you all the top shelf booze in goodly quantities (I might add) during the presentation in hopes that in an altered state you will buy. I needed a nap after we bought in 2007, lol, but I was sober enough to negotiate something decent. When we upgraded again in 2013 I stayed totally sober until we signed...then it was bring it on, well me anyways...think they wanted us to leave after several drinks, lol. Scott
I always make a trip up to the premier office for a margarita, they are freakin good up there. On the canadian thing, can't they just charge you in pesos and your credit card would do the peso to C$ conversion and you bypass the US $ completely?
Not really, they price all the rooms in USD. So they would just covert the USD room rate to Pesos(at that days exchange rate) and unfortunately it works out just the same as having paid in USD :icon_cry:
Ya it sucks.....I wish we could pay in pesos. Do locals staying at TTR have to pay in US funds? Or just foreigners? Do you know Coke?
Well, I thought maybe there would be strength in numbers but I guess unfortunately it looks like it will be a no go. We are the same Canadian Dos Equis Fan and Donald. Usually go November and March but we just can't do it or justify it. Comparing night rates of AI's in Cancun and everything is through the roof, even that dump next door to TTR. It's gonna be a long ass winter.......
All the pain of the Can/US exchange rate vanishes once you dip your toes in the Sexy Pool. OK, we keep singing ourselves that song. We've been keeping an eye on room rate prices from all the usual suspects and have decided on a price point that needs to be hit before pulling the trigger. Of course when we win the $70M 6/49 tomorrow we're going to buy TTR so that might alter the equation. :daveandmo:
We get it...it sucks. Just got back off a referral week...it was a great rate but it still sucked when it went from $887USD to $1300CAD. Turned a great rate into a mediocre one. Nikki
