I know there are a lot of fitness fanatics in this community. Our female half is a fantastic personal trainer who specialises in anti/post natal exercise and teaches all the les mills stuff and spinning etc. She also provides training for people to become qualified personal trainers and fitness instructors. She also runs a business as a sports therapist as she is a qualified sports masseur and intrinsic biomechanist and has a fantastic success rate in sorting out people's aches, pains and movement problems, some of which have been carried for years and years. We are desperate to find our way over to the states permanently and we are wondering if anyone in the fitness/rehab industry has any information on getting out there. The U.S. immigration process is a minefield but where there's a will there's a way! While I go and re-read The Little Engine That Could, I'm hoping for some of you lovely people to get in touch with advice or even positive stories which will help. Because even if we haven't got very far in trying for so long, hearing positive tales keeps us happy! :flagusa: Thanks in advance!!!
Hello, I have a bit of experience dealing with immigration. First with my wife over 5 years ago. She migrated to the US with a fiancée visa. Recently I helped her brother migrate with an employment visa. Either way you need to have a sponsor if you are planning on a permanent stay. Seeing the qualifications you have I would recommend looking for a company that would sponsor you and hire you. To receive an employment visa you will basically need to prove that your skills are specialized and/ or in need in the area you may move to. It is quite the long process. It took us about 2 years. Start hunting for jobs online and see what you come up with. I live in Denver and the economy is very strong right now. Finding good help is difficult in my industry. I'm not sure how the fitness industry is doing right now. Hope that helps. Good luck! D
Hi, I really appreciate your response. We're well aware of the trials surrounding the process and sponsorship! Unfortunately I cannot transfer in my profession. I have some very niche skills and have applied for positions but as our education systems differ so much I often struggle to get past a lot of the yes/no tick boxes in applications. I've sent letters explaining the difference and how my qualifications compare but by that point nobody wants to read the cover letter because I haven't got a high school diploma (we don't have them)!!! She has a good contact who has asked her to take a conversion course. She's currently in the process of studying but I fear that her lack of degree (very normal in the UK - you can be an expert in a field by doing a job-specific diploma or professional qualification) will mean the authorities just say no as the States appear to regard any professional without a degree as some kind of moron! I'm hoping for replies relating to the industry specifically but all replies mean a lot. This community of people is so varied and friendly it made sense to put it out there! Thanks again!
