Received our cash for our trip (flying in 12 hours) and despite being asked for small denominations we have ended up with $50 $20 and $10 bills.
I like to tip but not with 50's. :flagireland: :mexicoflag:

Throw a US$50 in the jar at Paty'o's at the start of the night and ask for your preference of drinks and you'll be well served the remainder of the evening.

Just tipping regularly get you superb service all week. I can only imagine what a 50 would do.

I read somewhere that servers n such in Cancun go crazy over $2 bills, think they show special thanks for very good service. Anyone ever heard of that or can confirm?

Yeah it is a pain. Our first trip back in January 2012, we ordered ours from Thomas Cook. When we collected, they'd ordered mostly $5000 (£200) and $1000 (£40) pesos notes! Bloody pain to get broken down when we weren't leaving the resort that much.

Can you take them to a regular bank and ask them to swap with lower denominations?

TD bank in Canada will order small bills ( 3 days),, CIBC would not promise size of bills .
