The Gold Helmet is an iconic symbol of the Fighting Irish,. It is today and it was 51 yrs ago, when the Niners switched from silver. Pretty sure no other teams were wearing gold helmets in the '50's or earliar. The connection to ND is significant going all the way back to Niners founder Tony Morabita's vendetta with Elmer Layden.. Morabita was a pretty controversial autocrat who held grudges. The connection continued on with the sale of the Niners to the Debartolos. Both Sr and Jr were ND grads. As far as Montana, the reason the G.O.A.T. hung around the Bay area is prolly bcuz all his exes and kids and grandkids are probably there. What does he have 4 exs? Everytime the Niners won a SB, he had a new wife it seemed We can continue this debate over some Bourbon 6 weeks tonite.
