Got my insurance! I told my travel agency I didn't need it, but after reading this, I immediately got some. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk
I think the US mentality is because we're conditioned by our culture that insurance is often an expensive "extra" tacked onto whatever purchase you've made, and is mostly for routine healthcare, and travel insurance can be worthless depending on the circumstances. By law our hospitals can't turn away an emergency case, they have to provide care. Doctors in other countries don't have to worry so much about lawsuits for not treating people and if you indicate that you can't or won't pay they are pretty quick to show you the door.
Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to read this! I was almost in tears by the end, too! I don't know how he survived but so glad he did! What caused the tear, do you guys know? Can someone, in a nutshell, explain traveler's insurance? I always thought it was more for covering your trip like as far as hurricanes, unforseen circumstances like you can't make the trip, etc. We have never gotten it in the past but now I'm thinking it's a necessity! Thank you! Also now stored in my phone!!
Very sad to read your story, but thankful that it had the positive ending. It was very kind of you to take the time to share what I am sure was a very difficult story to have to relive as you put it in print. You probably helped some people that haven't put enough thought into travelers insurance. I am personally am one of them, and will be looking into my coverage before my next trip. Thank you for that, and best wishes to your family.
