How much of a difference is there between the two rooms? I realize the ocean view is a little more, but with the layout of the place, are you really getting a better view. Is there a chance you could be facing the street with a garden view?
Yes, If you ask for a place away from PatyOs, you could face the street with a garden view. From the rooms I have had (Ocean view in 5000s, Jacuzzi room 1st floor around quiet pool, garden view 4000s looking over courtyard on the way to the sexy pool), they were all similar in size and style. They are pretty good at letting you pick the room you like. At first they seem to always offer the worst. I just ask nicely to see a few options, then pick the one I liked the best. In the future I will pretty much always book a garden view, then just be choosy where I end up. My first trip I did ocean view in the 5000s. That was great for a first time because i didn't know much and the few 100 extra bucks made sure I had an option I liked. In Sept the upgrade didn't cost that much, but in May it would have been much more, and IMO not worth it. Plus now I know the resort and the game, so it takes guesswork out of the equation.
Since you haven't been there before, and if you want to make sure you get a room you are happy with, then a safer bet is to book the ocean view. It would give you more options/choices if you weren't super happy with the first room they tried to put you in. That is if the cost isn't significantly different (Sept it was like 200 bucks more total, in May it was like 400+ more) My second trip I booked the ocean view, but the rooms they tried to put us in weren't as good as the one we had our first trip. So I just said I didn't really like those rooms at all. The resort was pretty full, and they ended up upgrading us to a Jacuzzi at no extra cost. Other people suggest booking the garden, then negotiating with them for a ocean or jacuzzi when you are there in person.
Last time we had ocean view 5000 building 1st floor and it was great but the prices online to book ocean view this time were insane. So we decided we will try this and see how it works out. If it doesn't work, we will just drink until we forget our names and by that time the room won't matter. :lotsofmichaelfs:
I am not sure how the booking options work, but there are two options for Jacuzzi. 1. Jacuzzi room where the jacuzzi is outside one the ground floor next to the quiet pool. 2. Jacuzzi is inside the room. (these don't seem any different aside from a big tub) I think 1 is the better option. And then if you get one on the left side (resort at your back looking towards the ocean), you can see the ocean and the pool.
I love how Orbirtz phucks with you when looking on line. You see that first great price, and then realize it's with two stops, and a total of at least 12 hours. Who wants that?
