We're trying to book tickets for end of October (10/24 to 11/1). We live in Dallas so we had the bright idea of leaving Friday after work so we get to enjoy a full day at Temptations on Saturday (rather than having to get up early Saturday to catch a plane), but that would mean we'd leave Dallas after 6 PM and get to Cancun at 10:30 PM. Has anyone arrived late? Stay at a cheap hotel within stumbling distance? Find someone to bunk with at Temptations and pick up your bracelet early the next morning? Any experience with this? Lisa just wants to wing it and see what happens. Gar is socially awkward and a bit neurotic. Okay, more than a bit. Thanks for the help!
they will check you in when you arrive. why not arrive get your bracelets and leave your bags in the lobby until the end of the night.
I don't see the problem....you check in when you arrive. I have seen people check in at midnite. (I do see a slight hiccup with neurosis over Halloween. That may be a problem. HnH week is kinda intense) BTW is Dallas to Cancun ususally a 4hr flight?
We were there last Halloween (2014)! You may not have seen Gar. He was hiding behind a rum and coke at the Paty O bar hoping no one made fun of him for not bringing a costume. The flight from Dallas to Cancun is about 2 hours and 40 minutes, but Cancun is an hour ahead. This is apparently not true. American Airlines website said, "Leaving at 6:55, arriving at 10:27". Today, when I checked it, it said, "Leaving at 6:55, arriving at 9:27". I know Cancun went to EST, but then you throw DST in the mix and it all apparently goes nuts. Sorry for any confusion. I'll go back to being neurotic now.
We have the same issue as Carlisa, we want to arrive a day earlier so that we can save our full paid first day. We are planing to go Dec. 9 - Dec.21. We have talked to our agent and here is a quoted response we got: "If your flight is landing on December 09th late at night and you make it to the resort after midnight (Dec 10th), your room will be waiting for you since you already pay for it, this advising the front desk that you are a late check in. If your flight is landing on December 08th late at night and you make it to the resort after midnight (Dec 09th), the suggestion is to add the night of December 08th to your stay, otherwise you will not have a room where to sleep and the check in would be until 03 pm on December 09th, this is what our guest do. I hope this two scenarios answer your questions." We are also looking for suggestions on how to handle this situation. Any info would be helpful.
This is almost exactly our problem! We have friends who will be there and will let us crash in their room. We have no problem with this. We are a little irritated that they'll charge us for a full day of fun when we arrive after 10 PM. It's not that big a deal, but you'd think they'd have some kind of special for late arrivals. We've got emails to our agent asking if there's anything he can work out. We told him we'd gladly buy him a beer once we're there. :daveandmo:
I would wager you a C-note that you can find someone with whom you could find a place to at least drop your stuff until the next morning..... It IS very easy to spend all night drinking, dancing hanging out etc at TTR until well past dawn if you wanted to do so.
There is a Comfort Inn at the airport. Free breakfast and free shuttle from the airport for about $70 a night. Get up in the morning and be at the sexy pool early. USA transfer will pick you at Comfort Inn. We have not done this but have heard of others.
Al and Kim, that is fantastic idea. Just a few more bucks and have a whole day, instead of a partial first day. One way to ensure the first day curse will not be avoided, lol.
True! And we are 3 for 3 on not avoiding the first day curse! So if we arrive at the resort at 10 PM that still gives us an hour or so to go 4 for 4? Or is there a cutoff for the first day rule?
