T Mobil Data free with right plan

We have used T Mobile during our last 3 trips to Cancun with no extra charge on our plan. The phone actually links with local provider Moviestar. The data is slow but adequate for email and facebook, etc. Worked from all 3 rooms at Temptation but signal is weak an may require special orientation.

    HooToo

Don't really like advertising, but Lisa and I also always have the problem of sharing the hotspot.

Although I haven't tried it at Temptations (yet), we've used the HooToo TripMate mini at other places and it works fine. It's a wireless router, hotspot, phone charger, server, all in one and it costs < $30.

Basically it uses the one "free" connection at the hotel and then anyone you give the password to can share.

It requires some patience and a few tech skills, but I like it.

The nice thing about using a phone as your hotspot ps that it fits in your pocket so you can both have access when you need it

We have jail broken iOS devices for this trip and are looking for ways to share a single connection.

Just a FYI it may work fine with open "free" WiFi services.

However most "for pay" Wifi connections(like the one at Temptation) require you to log in from a device and then lock that connection to that one single device. So even if you have a Wifi repeater/hotspot, or Bluetooth others would be unable to log in/share that connection with additional devices. The same applies if it sharing via Wifi or Bluetooth tethering

Obviously if you where using your own 3G, LTE data package and sharing that via the Wifi repeater/hotspot it would work fine, just would cost you $$$$$$$ ;)

Coke it does work fine over Bluetooth and we have done it on each of our visits there. The main phone stays logged in and the other is seen as just an open browser to the system

Good to know - just have to live with speed and distance restrictions of the bluetooth link ;)

Found an iPhone app called TetherMe. Only for jailbroken phones but it allows the incoming wifi signal to be re broadcast out and used as a hotspot.
Tested it to death and it works a treat.

Come and see us if you want to share ours whilst we are around the pool.
