    Hi sexy peeps,

28 days and we will be back!

The last time we were there we got the hotel wifi and tried to put the iphone in hotspot mode but it kept failing.
Has anyone found a way around this in order to share your connection between your other devices?

    Cheers

Nope... One code, one device, one use. :( That's the way they are set up.

Yeah i understand that, but iOS devices have the capability to 'share' their internet connections (Hotspot).
I wondered if anyone had managed it?

The hotspot only works with 3g or LTE. The hotspot uses the wifi radio to broadcast. So you cant receive the wifi from the hotel and use the same radio to broadcast.

For anyone that has AT&T for their cell phone provider, I think Mexico is considered local now. They have expanded their service to include Mexico, so I don't think it's roaming anymore. Check your phone 1st to make sure it's not roaming or call customer service before you go. If this hasn't gone into effect yet it will be very soon.

T-mobile also promises that if you have their plan "simple choice", your data and texting should be covered. It looks like most of their plans are some varieties of this "simple choice" plan. I don't know if it really works. Will check in 13 days:)

I bought a $150 cell phone from Mexico SIM Card | Buy Prepaid, Refillable Telcel SIM Cards. It's a cheap but functional cell phone that came with 100 minutes of outgoing calls (incoming calls are free) and 3Gb of data. The phone can be used as a wifi hotspot and we connected to it with our regular cell phones and tablets. Worked quite well. For an extra 5 bucks you can keep your data and minutes active for a year and for 10 more you can get a US phone number that will call forward to the Mexico phone. It may be a little more expensive that what the resort offers but it actually works well and works where ever you are in Mexico not just at the resort. Quite handy at the airport. With any luck we'll get to use the phone for a few years which will reduce the average cost.

There is an easy way to share a connection. IF you have an android phone or tablet. First sign up on your device then enable bluetooth connection sharing and finally on your other devices (and they can be any type) connect to the bluetooth. Then make sure that on the sharing device that share this internet connection is checked.

it might be listed under bluetooth tethering under the mobile network sharing tab
