I'm a self-proclaimed beer snob. Let's get that out of the way.

Is there any place near TTR to find a good selection of imported (or even high quality Mexican domestic) beers that I'm not likely to find in the States? Every time I travel, I try to find some beers that I've never had before. I'm perfectly willing to drink Dos Equis, but hey, this is my vacation, and I'm willing to pony up the cash for something a little more interesting.

I realize that most visitors to Cancun don't go there for $18 microbrews, but I was hoping to find a specialty store that might have single bottles or assortments for sale. I may try to bring a few of my favorite Belgian abbey ales in the luggage, but that's not going to get me past day 2. I assume that shipping a case of my favorites to the resort before arrival would be extremely expensive.

Duty free shops sell plenty of wine and liquor, but I've yet to see one that sells any beers more exotic than Heineken.

Thanks in advance for your help with my dilemma!

I seriously do wish you the best of luck man, but it is going to be a long shot. I pretty much just mentally prepare ahead that the beer situation isn't going to make me happy. I wouldn't even know where they would have great Mexican beer, because I don't even know what great Mexican beer tastes like.

Finding good imports would be like trying to get the people on the Boobs Cruise to calm down...it just isn't going to happen.

Then I shall take it upon myself to do the importing !

I found the same thing at Desire last year - we had dinner with some folks, and the guy dropped $1200 (not pesos) on a bottle of wine for the wives. One. Bottle. Of. Wine. Pretty sure he thought he was "investing" in the evening's affairs.

I couldn't even find a damned Guinness. :banghead:

    Thanks for the heads up.

$1200 bucks on a bottle. That's crazy, but I guess if you can, then go for it.

Mmmm Guinness, you said the magic word. One of the best parts of my house is I can pour them as large as I want!

Well, I don't have a kegerator, but I do have the same mug from Hoffbrau House! I was at HB in Vegas during CES week. I saw a group of Japanese electronics executives taking advantage of the "free" shots of Jager. They later learned that you had to pay with cash ($5) or ass (her paddle). Alas, they had no money :aktion033:

    Good times.

Back to the question at hand, now that I've hijacked my own thread drooling over ScubaSteve's fountain of Guinness...

A quick search turned up this gem:

    http://www.beersinparadise.com/?p=13234

A place called The Beer Box. I noticed that they had Duvel and some Hacker Pschorr flip tops in the cooler. Pretty swanky. One guy said they didn't open until 6:00 PM, and it's 30 mins by bus from TTR. Sorry, but I'm not missing lingerie night for that. I wonder if they'd deliver for me...

    We shall see.

Never mind. They carry Delirium Tremens. I'll freaking walk if I have to.

he says: I have nothing of value to add here but, damn, this thread makes me as thirsty as the opening shot in the allegedly illegitimate "Hottest bikini Pic 2015" thread does. Almost.

Just toured St James Gate yesterday
    What a place!

Tossing back a free pint in the Gravity Bar with the City of Dublin at your feet, with our newly printed 'proper pouring diplomas' in hand.
it is quite a moment and brings a tear to the eye!

St James Gate is reputed to be the most visited place in Ireland.

Lucky! I can't wait to go. Hope you are having an amazing time.

Yes the diplomas are sweet. I have had many friends bring them over to show me. The excitement they have in their faces is priceless (plus now they can go get me a beer instead of me having to do all the leg work).

The real test though is how many lines should be left in the empty glass if you then proceeded to drink it correctly. :ernaehrung005:
