What's HER idea of romantic? Let us know what she likes, and we can help better.

Well, the usual, nice atmosphere, being treated like she is the only and most beautiful woman in the world. Which I agree with of course. A nice location (view), candlelit dinner.
    More focused on just us.
A previous post mentioned Tulum and stopping at Playa del Carmen on the way back. I think that would be great, but I don't know anything about either of those two places. Especially things like travelling to them, bus or cab, what to go do or see in Tulum (besides the beach), and where a good restaurant, with all the features mentioned previously, is located. And I also don't want to waste a lot of time driving/riding.

Sam says: Take her on a deep sea fishing trip (clothing optional) followed by a night at a sports bar and a BJ on the trip back. She'll never forget it!

There is a nice outdoor restaurant called Coco's and Grill just to the north of the resort beach side. Just past the marina entrance for the regular booze cruises

That sounds like she would be romancing me! I'm not sure the smell of fish(while naked), followed by a dirty and loud sports bar, followed by her giving me a BJ would be her idea of romance. I'm not even sure I like the whole idea, well, except for the end!

We stay at excellence in playa mujeres when we want a romantic get away. In fact that's where we honeymooned. You can't avoid romance there. Also consider Desire Pearl.

We've never explored Cancun much outside TTR, and didn't find anything too exciting when we did, but we've been to Playa del Carmen and Tulum a few times, so here are some ideas if you don't mind a drive:

    1. If you want to make it a full-day thing, arrange for a private driver (it's not that expensive, and that way you operate on your schedule.)
    2. Tulum is about an hour and a half away from the resort. It's really cool history and only takes about an hour and a half to tour. There is a gorgeous beach there. However, I wouldn't call it romantic--it's crowded and hot as hell.
    3. Akumal--on the way back from Tulum (or just go there first if you aren't into the ruins--probably an hour drive from the resort) is a lazy little beach town, not as developed as the surrounding areas. There's a cute little beach restaurant, and you can rent equipment for $10 and snorkel with sea turtles right off the beach. It's an awesome experience!
    4. Cenote tour--your driver would know of many options. I haven't done it because the water is COLD. If she likes cold water, she'll love because the cenotes are gorgeous. You can also work ziplining into most of the cenote tours Secret swims: the cenotes of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula - Lonely Planet
    5. Alux restaurant--it's in a cave and looks amazing! I haven't been there, but I've heard good things! It's in Playa del Carmen, about half an hour away from the resort. Alux Restaurant, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, México
    6. If you get to Playa around sunset, head to the town square where they have a sunset celebration with Mayan dancers who dive off a platform with ropes around their ankles--it's pretty awesome.
    7. Playa also has jewelry stores open late for after dinner--just sayin':aktion054:

Ahhhh!!! I like these! Not too sure I want a three hour round trip to Tulum. So maybe we'll hit Akumal first, see some turtles, get a little local culture, then head to Playa right before sunset, see the crazy dudes diving off a platform with the ropes, and head to dinner at ALux. Then afterwards, stroll through Playa's late night jewelers to adorn her with some magnificent jewelry, and still make it back to TTR in time for Paty O's!

What do you think ladies? Will I succeed with this plan?

    Thanks Summerbum! Great info!

BTW...Parrothead...I like yours too, but I really need a win on this one!
