I am looking to get a bottle of good Tequila for a friend of mine that is a bit of a connoisseur. Anybody have a suggestion for a good brand? Preferably one that is easy to obtain near TTR and is not available in the States. Does the airport have anything that would work?

I load up on Don Julio 70 at the airport. While I'm not a connoisseur, I know what's good and that is definitely good. A true sipping tequila. I have a couple of friends who think of themselves as experts and they both love it.

Fortalezza Tequila. I bought one bottle in Mexico loved better than Patron. The best I've had. It is hard to find in the U.S. (or at least in TX).

Try Casamigos...really smooth chilled...George Clooney teamed with Cindy Crawford's husband to make this...we love it.

People always tell me great brands that you can only get down there, but the problem I never remember, they basically all sound the same, and the fact that we are normally drinking tequila while they are enlightening me.

Our vote, far beyond any other, would be Clase Azul Reposado. It's not cheap but the best price is usually at duty free on the way out of the country. It's in a tall white and blue bottle, very cool bottle. And is really really good. There was a time I couldn't have imaged saying Tequila tasted good.

I love Tequila. My wife and I have found the best prices and a huge selection (over 70) flavors to choose from at the duty free shop in the airport. We bring back our limit each year we go to TTR. (when you are leaving to go home when you pass through security) The employees are very helpful. I have bought tequila out in town in the market places and have gotten bad deals out there, once I find the same exact brand in duty free a lot cheaper. As for a good one to buy, that is tough to say. The Don Julio 70 you can buy in the states.

Fantastic tequila, and it's not very expensive. And I'm a bit of a tequila snob :)

If budget is not a problem and want something you dont normally find in the states, then I suggest Casa Dragones. It runs about $275/bottle.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to check the liquor store tomorrow and see if any of those are not available here, then we leave on Sunday.
