And I will third on the pre-tanning. Very important because it's too easy to get caught up in all the drinking and socializing and either forget to seek shad or make the drunken decision to forego it. I'm not fair skinned and I tan quite easily but I can still burn and my wife is very fair skinned but we start tanning in a bed 6 weeks before we go, using a good tanning bed lotion, and she ends up quite dark. It looks good and protects us from sunburn. Then, while you're there use a waterproof spray-on sunscreen liberally and often and you should be fine. Bring plenty of sunscreen from home though because it will cost you at the resort.

From your profile pic, it looks like he may be a little folically challenged, so he may want to bring a hat. A floppy type hat will also protect his ears. While not right next to the sexy pool, a few steps away there are hammocks that are under a shade structure. It's next to the volleyball court, and a good place to catch a short snooze.

Brad is definitely quite folically challenged!!! He is always really good about his hats so that's no issue. I will talk with him about pre-tanning. Thanks for all your suggestions!!!

My husband didn't earn the nickname 'whitey' for nothing. We have to be one of the only couples to come back as white as when we left, but it's worth it to not have to suffer the burns. The pain and heatstroke isn't worth the tan for us.

My advice, stick by the swim up bar it is in the shade. Also, remember to put lotion everywhere! Russ has burnt the back of his hands and his feet before now because we forgot about those areas and they were painful. I burnt my chin one year and it looked awful! Take a hat and remember to wear it. Also our strategy is to apply a shit load of lotion nude in the room to make sure every inch is covered, then top up with a full body spray down with the spray stuff every half hour or so. We got burnt up last year when we made the mistake of not topping up when it was cloudy and breezy. It didn't feel hot and there was no sun, but it still affected us. If you're fair skinned, the sun will still burn you up even if it's not sunny! Through the years I've also realised I have to remind the husband to top up the sun lotion and he has to remind me. When you're both on the ball there's less of a window when either of you forget.

I also bring UV protection lip balm and use it often after burning my lips (the face kind you with the dirty minds!) and that sucked too. Also if you wear a hat, you need to reapply along the rim often as when it moves it rubs off the protection.

    Sun Tanning

Try tanning in morning and late'ish in afternoon when the sun's not so strong to build up a colour, plenty of cream and wear a tee-shirt in the pool (a must if you've not had much exposure prior to TTR). Like sex, do it gentle, little and often........oh no, did I say that !!!!!!!!!!!!
    Enjoy the party

There is always the swim shirts these days that protect. I have seen a few fair skinned Canadians wearing them in the past.

    TAN before you go!
Only way to keep from burning miserably!
Hard to find a spot, much less shade at the Sexy Pool.
I am a red head. I tan for 2 months before I go.
