Hello guys, just wondering if someone here knows a way to make the find my iphone feature point to another hotel since we have a 16 yo and very curious kid and we don´t want him to use that feature to locate us at Temptation. We don´t want to turn off the feature since he will tell us to turn it on.

Here in México is always good to have it turned on, cause you never know.

    Thanks!

If you can stop at another resort before going to TTR and ask for the SSID "wifi" code, you can save it to your I phone. At that point your phone should show you being at that resort. As long as you don't get the wifi package at TTR, you should be undetectable. Just make sure the resort you use is VERY close to TTR. Hope this helps. Good luck!

I don't understand this problem. Your phone tells people where you are? Without your permission? If this is true then your only option is to Throw your phone away. Or better yet, throw your sons phone away. Do you have to sign off on this? If I wanted people to know my affairs I would join Facebook or 4 square or one of those stupid things. Why would anybody want to carry a device that rats them out 24 / 7. Who would sign up for that. Sometimes. I. feel. really. old.

It's done with your permission.. think of it this way.. You are a parent and your child has an iPhone. You set this up and at any point you know where your child is, if they get lost, kidnapped, run away, go to a party rather than the library. You turn yours on for your child so that if you are ever separated they can find you. They don't end up standing in the middle of the room crying because they slot you.

It's optional and you decided who can "find" you.

Now for the OP... this works only when you hook up on WiFi or when you have a cell signal too? You can tell your son that the cost of cell in Mexico is way too much (and it IS expensive compared to the US for US cells) and you won't have it on all the time because you don't want to pay overseas rates for random incoming calls (valid reason). So you will call him every once in a while.. so at that point you get to choose what location he sees you at while your phone is on... like on the bus going to Walmart at the end of the hotel zone (aka you are just passing by that hotel)... or when you are actually out and about you call.... come on.. think reverse.. how would you hide from your parents????

    :)

Damn.. just noticed that you were from Mexico, not the US... well hmmmm. Does Mexico have nation wide roaming built into every plan? If it does then my suggestions won't work, but maybe they gave you some other ideas....

I don't think this is true. The “find my i phone” feature should work with the GPS location system built into the phone, not the WiFi. If your phone wasn't connected to a wifi network(which mine normally isn't, unless I am at home), then the app would be pointless.

Now the GPS can't exactly pinpoint the phone to inches. There is a bit of variance. Your best bet is to just say that you’re staying at the hotel next door, and you room is on the edge of the hotel, so it is reading slightly off.

Or, and I mean this in a nice way, tell your son he is a kid, and your are the adult, you are fine and safe, and he can keep his inquisitive questions to himself. You will give him whatever answers you want.

We need some clarification. The only way your son could use the find my iPhone feature is if he knows your log in account pass word, then from a computer or his own phone, he logs In as the original poster and looks for "his" phone, which he promptly finds at TTR, Regardless of wifi connectivity (find my iPhone is specifically designed to find a lost or stolen iphone).

Now, if he's using the Find my Friends app which many parents use to track their kids iPhones, then you can simply turn off his ability to find you within the app itself.

Barring all of that, maybe it's time to sit down and have a talk with him. He needs to know that mom and dad still have sex and get freaky. :D. It will probably gross him out, but that's his problem. LOL
