I really liked the film, but hated the book, skipped most of the sex parts in the book cause they went on too long:aktion060:

I got dragged along to see the film a week or so ago and have to say we enjoyed it ,,,,,, OK it wasn't a porn flick but to be honest I wasn't expecting one especially when you have an actor and actress who aren't porn actors and perhaps want to work in the film industry when 50 shades has died down , that bit seems to of flown over a lot of folks head . I haven't read the books so couldn't tell you if they were poorly written , as with all films bits of the book get left out but its going to when you have to condense a book down to 2 hours for a film . As for the BDSM bit of the film well if you are into the hardcore side of BDSM then no doubt the film was way of the mark and to tame for you but theres a lot of us who like to play around the fringes of the scene and have enjoyed taking some of the scenarios back home with us '

certainly not the best film we have seen but not the worse by a long way and looking forwards to the sequel if it gets made

by the way ,,,, anything that gets my better half even hornier cant be a bad thing in my book

We had this discussion at coffee this morning, one of my team was saying how he tried to read it and didn't like it and that he "knows people who know the scene" and it wasn't a true representation and promoted violence against women.

He became annoyed when I started laughing.

I explained that the book has sold over 100million copies to mostly women. I also pointed out that it was fiction. I then mentioned the effect it had on Ali while she was reading it. Finally I looked up the box office numbers and found that it has made over $120 million on a budget of $40 million.

So apparently a poorly written book promoting violence against women sold millions and was turned into a successful multi-million dollar grossing movie.

But feel free to let people know how bad it is lol

I've long said that success was never a result of good writing, acting, directing or anything else. It's all about mass appeal.

There's nothing inconsistent pointing out that you think something that's very successful sucks donkey balls.

Avatar is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. And it made 8 jillion dollars.

Avatar has its place though. Not a great story but the visuals were amazing when it came out.

From what I can gather 50 shades is basically skinemax BDSM

I read the first book. Kinda lame and not that thrilling. I was surprised they were making a movie on this and so because of that I started reading the third book. Never read the second but pretty sure I didn't miss nothing. I got three chapters in and she started talking about her inner subconscious again. I totally remembered why I said screw this now and that book has gone into the shit pile now. Glad I didn't bother with the movie. The reviews aren't good.

Huh! Going out on an obviously lonely limb here to say I loved the books. I could not put them down. I've never heard of such crazy sh!t. With that admission, I refuse to see the movie. They are never as good as the book.

He should have read a little more. The books were nothing to do with violence against women, she was a willing participant. The books were about "him" healing from physical and sexual abuse with "her" help.

I agree that the books were poorly written, but my wife & I BOTH still read all of them. I never read books either, but these ones at least peaked my interest. LOL The movie wasn't great by any stretch of the means, but it was far from awful too. I'm sure it will do well in the theaters as will the sequels.
