We usually tip an ave of $50/day. Last trip I wanted to make someone smile so I tipped a grounds keepers $20 who was mowing the grass. These guys likely never get tips and work as hard or harder than anyone at the resort. He didn't speak English but he made a point to smile and wave every time he saw me the rest of the trip. I challenge my fellow cancuncare peeps to make one large tip per trip to someone who usually doesn't get tipped. Lets bring a smile to those who don't get to smile often enough
We are early risers and always see the guys who do the grounds (same guy 6 days a week) and the lady who does the quiet pool deck (again 6 days a week). We say good morning to them every day...split between our lousy Spanish and their English...always works out I will tip them from now on though, thank you for the reminder We count on about $50 USD a day for tips but always bring more for BC, shopping etc. Think we will tip in Peso's next trip... CDN to US $ sucks right now but very little difference between the CDN / US $ to the Peso.
Thr OP's original question has been well answered...............but you might add in the ferry to Isla......and a golf cart rental there..........as well as shopping money while there. Lots of good silver there..................just beware of the fakey silver. We were fooled at one place last trip.
We bring enough that we don't have to use ATM in Mexico, we at least bring; 50 dollar per day for tip 110 dollar US for Boob Cruise 100 dollar for shopping 60 dollar Transfer 200 dollar to eat out in Isla Mujeres 50 dollar for ferry to Isla 200 dollar stacked away in different pockets emergency fund All in US currency Total the above and you will have way more than you will need for your vacation. Just put most of your cash in the safe and take out only what you need.
I always take a good pair of tinted safety glasses and leather gloves for the first grounds keeper I see
As this is our first trip as well, do you tip for every drink, or do you do 1 tip per day? Not sure of the best routine.
Do what feels right. We had a bartender last year at the sports bar not sure of his name but he was way cool and we tipped him a 20 to start then more as we got more tipsy. He was awesome
