I keyed in on that as well. People yelling etc is bad, but not worthy of jail. But in all fairness the account says that the wife made the first move.

As for the stuff at the jail, no one should have to go through that. But it isn't really fair to pin that on the hotel.

At the end of the day, whether it's a bar, resort or shopping mall in another country, in this case Mexico, don't get involved physically.

 

If that is all that happened, feels weird TTR would get cops involved. Overkill.

 

That really sucks, getting taken by Mexican police is just a nightmare come true. I feel for you guys, I don't know if I would have done something different. But considering you guys are safe and only thing that was ruined or taken from you was your vaca time and money is still a blessing.

 

My thoughts exactly, I've witness full out brawls at TTR before and nobody was even kicked out, let alone arrested.

So sorry to hear some jack_ss ruined you and your lovely wifes anniversary trip! I really feel for you on this. Many of the comments state that it would have been better that any physical altercation had been started by the drunk dumb#ss, believing then that you and your wife would have been off the hook. I doubt this would have been the case though, regardless of who did what. Remember, this is Mexico, and the common practices for defending oneself or your loved one are NOT necessarily the same as they would be in Canada, the U.K, or in the U.S. Like you said, you are an imposing, big guy, and since the other guy ran straight to the front desk first you were going to be the target, regardless of how much a gentleman you were after the fact. After that it was pure shakedown, and waiting to speak to the embassy would have put the authorities in an uncomfortable position, but waiting around for your day in court would have been awful too. The cops knew it, and they used it as a tool. This was pure shakedown. Like I said, I feel for you, and many of us would have found ourselves in the same position. Best of luck to you both. I think the lesson is, don't assume the laws at home, whether written or unwritten (even for common respect and civility), apply universally across borders.

 

Ok....I know what some dicks on here will say.....but I have been there...almost in jail.
Not far from you house Steve...had a problem. Near Subterrano. Marilyn saved my ass (she had the most cigarettes).....or that cop was gonna get a whole lot of hurt...and I would've finished trip #17 in a cell. ( single loser dude went to cops first)

Trip #18, was a problem with another single dude..bothering the shit out of most people.
The infamous Dr. EVIL....who JJ was even dying to thump.

sorry....there are some awesome single dudes who we both think the world of....but there are some real clever pieces of shit ones too.
And unfortunately....they call the cops first when all hell breaks loose....and Voila.

Single losers are getting difficult to deal with ....had a few problems in last year.

To the OP very sad to hear of your plight....but sad to say....it is not the first story of this nature lately....just the first publically.

3 of the last 4 (since June) trips have had possible jail ramifications for somebody we know or met or...ME...due to inappropriate behaviour by a single guy. (A trick of the trade...-seen a few cells-..... be a smoker or carry smokes. They are gold, with cops and in prisons all over the world....too late to know this now for you but it is funny how the person with the most smokes has verdict power)

That sucks, I've had to deal with drunk bastards bothering my wife but not to this extent. What happened to you is BS!
