JUST SAW THIS~~~~AWESOME!!!!!! If you like movies, don't miss this one. Fantastic story line based on real events, and great cinematography, best basic training scene since Full Metal Jacket. A friend of mine was US Marine Recon in Vietnam, and was awarded 2 silver stars (one with clusters), a Bronze Star, and 2 purple hearts, and was pinned by Nixon and Johnson. He was a tortured POW and escaped from a jungle prison camp after his battalion was captured. Really makes you realize how tough and dedicated these Veterans are. Thanks again to all who have served, so we can be free!:flagusa:
I want to see the movie and really can't understand the backlash it has gotten. Of course it will be a somewhat whitewashed version of thebut that's truth. But that's OK for me. A movie of this tow should tell a story and leave the audience thinking
The Book vs. the Movie Great Movie! I read the book before the movie. Noted some small differences but I think the essence is fairly captured. Book and movie are not about justifying the war, its about the physical and psychological sacrifices our military make and how difficult it is for many to come back home and reestablish a normal life. If you have a problem with the war that's on our politicians and us for electing them. All of us are permanently indebted to the men and woman who volunteered to serve. They are all heroes in my book! An interesting side story, not mentioned in the movie, is Jessie Ventura who ran his mouth off and had a run in a bar with Chris Kyle in 2006 (disputed by Ventura). Ventura sued Kyle and was awarded 1.845M for defamation which he intends to collect from Kyle's widow. Reading some of his disrespectful statements Ventura has made since this incident I don't blame Kyle or any other Seal for punching him out. I understand he has no plans to attend Seal events in future. The Hollywood folks raising issues about this movie are idiots! for which I have no respect.
Unless you have family or close friends in the military on active duty, it is hard to describe how screwed up our politicians are and were their priorities are based. The sacrifice that the military make is unbelievable and under rewarded. 9/11 was a wake up call and America rallied behind the military but soon after fell right back to sleep. Because of the actions of veterans, we are able to do things that we take for granted everyday. Next time you see a veteran traveling or eating in a dinner, by him an meal and tell him thanks. It is a small price to what he has sacrificed.
Many are screaming about the low minimum wage in the US, but many in the military are actually paid BELOW minimum wage. There is no outrage about what the soldiers, sailors and airmen are paid. Too bad our priorities have become one of paying a hamburger flipper more but nothing about paying the military more.
I won't mention them all...............but in the book there was only one reference to "Mustafa".......... And there was no "war" between snipers.............AND a major point for me was that Kyle's first kill was NOT the child/boy.........it was the woman with the grenade. There are many other discrepancies............Eastwood did a great job......but the movie is different than Kyle's book. Just saying......
