I,m one of the ones that used to bash ''membership'' all the time ,, :( ,, but have come to realize bashing membership is like bashing members ( in members perspective) , ,so I have curtailed myself a lot ,, ( a lot of my friends have bought in ) and try to limit myself to pointing out wrong $$(exaggerated ) or putting a comical spin on things ( ie Someone asked if they could get Crown Royal ,, I answered ,, '' Yes for $6,000, and for that you also get your private seating area to drink it ').

and threads would go like this,, a newbie asks a Membership question, then the same half dozen people debate the pros and cons. Then no-one would talk to me for a week.

So,, go to the meeting , stay sober, listen to the presentation ,and make up your own mind.

I think i,m getting soft ,lol

There is no definitive answer to the question of whether buying a Premier membership a good idea, because we all value different things. It's like stating that buying a mini van is more practical than a 4 wheel drive truck. If you've got small kids, probably the mini van, but I don't haul kids...I hunt, pull a camper, ATV and a boat and own land I need 4 wheel drive to get to. The truck is the obvious answer for me. I don't value white towels, premium liquor or a special place to put my white towel while I'm in the pool. Some people want every available perk...two points of view mean two different correct answers to the value of a Premier membership. No for me, yes for others. No problems with that.

What I'd share with first timers to the resort that no matter what is being sold...loud bells, whistles, alarms and fireworks go off in my head when:

-what is proposed as a tour of the resort is a soft opening to get to the sales pitch, rather than stating the objective up front.
    - when alcohol is encouraged during a decision making process involving a long term and ten percent or more of household income for many people.
-when a decision involving a long term commitment and a pile of money must be made on the spot without an hour or two...or a day or two to think on it. Basically, too many people who can't afford it aren't allowed to sober up and figure out that it won't fit into their yearly budget. Two couples we met last year...on their first trip, bought in...and neither couple can afford to vacation this year...or possibly even in years to come. They were overly excited, overly intoxicated, and over-extended financially once they signed the agreement. In the US, any contract signed while intoxicated is void, and for good reason. In Mexico, getting people drunk is sometimes an effective sales tactic.
The most expensive thing I'll ever buy when I'm drunk is another drink. Do that and you'll be better off, I think.

Like I said in a previous post, I have no intention of accepting a tour/ presentation this time around only because we prefer to travel to different places every year. That being said, it is going to be our first visit to TTR, and we could just fall in love with it. Never say never, but it does surprise me that using alcohol as a means of influencing a client's decision making process is allowed. Different Country...different rules I guess.

On the lighter side, the best brush off that I have heard was our last trip in October. As we left the check in and were approached by a sales babe, Sam said: "Thank you for the offer, but we'll pass. I must say however, you have gorgeous tits!" Without ever stopping. That was the only time I've ever seen them speechless.

I have to say that I totally agree with everything you've said here, though there is a lot more to the membership than what you said which has been pointed out in previous posts.
I do think that Referrals are a great idea for people who think they maybe interested... or not. We were against buying for a number of trips, then they had this presentation for repeaters, we listened but didn't buy in.
Next trip we used a friends referral, again listened and we're a bit interested, went home thought about.. then again used another friends referral.. went to the presentation told the guy no right from the get go... he respected our no but had to do the presentation, we understood... ha ha.. we bought.. We probably in the end went through 5 presentations in all until it made sense to us... I really do think these presentations should be for repeaters only..

I think refferals should be for repeaters only.....but way too hard to implement.
A referral week is kinda lost on a true TTR newbie.
    unlikely to appreciate the difference.
I also think the time has come to re-jig rules regarding referral weeks.
Too much abusing of the 'perks' and scamming is happening nowadays.
