It is NOT LEGAL to drink while driving a golf cart. We have had beers on our cart, and it does seem to be tolerated, but it is technically against the law.
Th Golf Cart Thing We've made day trips to the isle both our trips. The first time, I had read the awesome advice to skip the golf cart rental places near the pier to get better rates. I (because my wife had nothing to do with this, and wan't too please with me) ended up wasting 40 minutes of our visit and ended up paying the same rate as the places next to the pier. Our second trip, we had hired a photographer for a present to my wife, and he suggested we go the isle as he knew lots of great locations. It must have been a popular day, and we ended up wasting 30 minutes or more going from place to place only to find no carts available. So we walked to the north beaches, which was less than 10 minutes. And then we took taxies around the isle. It turns out the taxies are dirt cheap. A few times we asked them to wait, other times, we just let the taxi go and caught the next one driving around. We went around most of the island by taxi, and had some waiting and probably paid $20 total. We'll probably go back to the isle on our next visit simply because Temptation's beach sucks, and the island has a beautiful beach. But you can walk there form the pier. So consider saving the expense and frustration of the golf cart. One caveat... the photographer spoke some modest Spanish and you have to agree on prices. There weren't any arguments, and we didn't have to walk away from any cars because they were charging too much.
you might be right but for the first timers golf carts are also an adventure in its own, with having your own transport plus drinking and driving and stopping where ever you feel like....
yeah, the place 1 street back across from the ferry is a few dollars cheaper for a cart. and it's just alot of fun getting lost while driving around. and getting drinks at the point on the south end and walking along the cliffs is nice also. but the $$ did go for that.
We arrive in Cancun @ 12:30 that means if we get the green light and our ride is waiting for us we will get to Temptation at 1:30 (planning on dropping off our luggage bag at TTR) and then arriving at Isla around 2 ish, finding a golf cart and then going to our hotel getting settled and then lunch that is another one and half hour which makes it 3:30 to start our cruising and there is so much to see. I think we will have to be picky and find the best things to see maybe norte beach, turtle rescue place, cemetery, dinner and then bars at Hidalgo street. In the morning Punta Sur and some shopping.
