I am just worried about our flight home. When we booked our flights the departure and arrival times took into account the 1 hour time difference between Detroit and Cancun. We were supposed to leave Cancun at 12pm and arrive in Detroit at 5. Now will we leave Cancun at 1pm or arrive in Detroit at 4?
We, in the USA, change our clocks the first Sunday in Nov. and March. Cancun will match our Eastern time from Nov. to March. March to Nov. it will match our Central time. Super Bowl will start at 6:30 in Cancun. McKellar77 You will leave Cancun at 1pm and still arrive in Detroit at 5:00pm. Good news, an extra hour in Cancun. You actually lost that hour when you arrived in Cancun. It will now be an hour later on arrival in Cancun. As long as you are traveling before we change our clocks in March. Hope that helps I think?
This isn't a Daylight Savings Time change (Spring ahead Fall back)...it's a permanent change to the Eastern Time Zone from Central Standard Time.
No I think AI and Kim are correct. If they are changing the time zone and it matches Easten as of the 1st, but then they just keep it that way all year long (which is what it sounds like), then Eastern changes like it normally does, then Cancun would match Eastern for only 1/2 of the year.
I didn't realize a country can take themselves off the world time zone map and completely invent their own time zone. I know there are deviations by states and countries of 15 or 30 minutes, even an hour depending on DST but to simply change a time zone seems weird. Cancun is clearly not in the Eastern time zone. This idea seems like it will screw up airplanes, ships, trains and add to general confusion of the internet and scheduling of all kinds. If we get to vote on our own time zones I vote for Party Time!
Doesn't AZ do their own thing half of the year and aren't always in sync other states in their designated time zone? I believe there is part of another state that does this as well. I don't think there is an official world law that says you need to fit into a time zone that is based on some imaginary line a dude drew on a map many years ago that was between several other made up boundry lines. I think it has a lot to do with commerce. If you can justify what works better for one’s country, then I think they can do want...within reason. I feel like at some point in my lifetime daylight savings time will be gone on the eastern coast. You hear stories of this often, and I think it just boils down to what makes the most sense. Some things made more sense back in the day, and they just aren't as relevant anymore. Or I can be completely wrong, and made God herself designated the time zones
