we come for 12 days cuz u pay for the airfare either way......so the hotel is cheaper is u buy it in bulk compared to the rest
We usually count on $50 USD or Peso equivalent per day for tipping, then we add the cost of Steve's BC and finally unexpected purchases...all in all about $800 USD.
We tipped 10 to twenty US a day total depending on what we were doing. We also purchased a little jewelry so added another 50 dollars to that for shopping - about 200 dollars US for a week would be plenty for us. That's not including the cost of US Transfers (private shuttle from the airport). We tip the maid a dollar a day and five last day. The bar people get a dollar every other drink. Don't bring change unless it Mexican money. They can't exchange US or Canadian change. Remember that Mexico flea market type vendors and guys walking the beach selling stuff are negotiable. You pay about 50 to 60 percent at max for what they originally asked. So how much really depends on how generous a tipper you are and how much of off site shopping or activities your planning to do. We don't really do much off site so we don't generally need a lot of extra cash on us.
We also tipped a dollar at meals but we stayed away from the reservation style resteraunts. The 200 US for a week works out for us.
We usually go at least one night to one of Cancun´s discos (Coco Bongo´s or Mandala) and spend about $180 there with transportation included. We also go out of the resort to have lunch or dinner a couple of times in the week. Not that TTR restaurants are not good, they are very good, but we like to get out once or twice. That plus tipping should be around $600.00 but I´d say if you don´t go out and are a generous tipper plus light shopper $300.00 would be enough for a one week stay. Oh and remember the fare from the airport to the resort and back.
We usually spend about $50 a day on tips at the resort. You will find certain staff that really do their job well, so I tip them well and they then make sure you are taken care of every time they see you. I tip our server at the Italian restaurant with a couple of large tips during the week.
