My wife and I are huge EDM fans, and I'm somewhat of an aspiring DJ. I've read a few reports about less than great music (repeating songs over and over) so I was considering bringing some of my DJ gear (mix table etc) and trying to payy off the DJ's to let me play some sets. I usually play EDM (club music) with some top 40 stuff and oldies mixed in (the ones EVERYONE knows, Bon Jovi, etc), my group of friends are 30's to 50's and always enjoy it. What is the music like (this is our first time), and anyone think I can pull this off? Usually in Mexico, money talks! LOL
I don't really know how to respond about the classification of the music, because I am not an expert on EDM. But I would say that it is EDM, with the top 40 dance stuff in there as well. My sister-n-law loves Armin, and goes on the grove cruise every year. I understand she loves Trance. I just basically put what she likes, and what they play there (beat thumping, electric, dance, rhythmic) music together. I am sure many people are like me with this when they don't like/know a particular type of music...Metal, rock, classic rock, 90s alternative, new alternative probably all sound the same to someone that doesn't listen to/like that genre. The DJ's change, some seem better than others, some mix in more cool old dance stuff, but I feel like lots of it is the same all day, every day. The top 40 stuff will play many many times a day (fireball at least 7 times daily). Now maybe the resort keeps the DJ's limited to what they play, but I have no idea. Them taking a request that isn't already on their play list is damn near impossible, even if you know it is a great song that would fit right in their set. As far as them letting you spin. IMO that's a 0% chance. They don't seem to waiver on what goes down. I wouldn’t bring my equipment to Mexico.
Yup. I'd say you'd have a ZERO percent chance as well. They do their best to cater to the widest possible cross-section of tastes.
I read that a group had hired there own private DJ, and then got rejected after getting pre-approval. A good DJ does not play what he likes BTW, he plays fore the crowd
Of course. So this sounds like a waste of my time then. Guess I'll just have to enjoy everything else going like everyone else! Thanks for the responses Cheers!
over the years its been hit and miss, sometimes their good , sometimes,,,, well,, When they have the daytime pool party guest dj ( seemed to be 2 or 3 times a week last April), they did play the newer dance club stuff. when your enjoying yourself the music seems to fade to background , unless their really bad.
Best option is to make a couple of different mixes and load them on an ipod. Then bring a portable speaker. I do this and pull it out then there isn't loud music going on (sports pool, when the DJ is done at Patty-Os, When the DJ is done at the Sexy pool, but before the bar is fully closed, at the quiet pool bar, random room party, random deck party, or at the beach)
Those are perfect times above there was this dude last year that brought one of those portable Bose speakers and would play it at the Sexy pool when TTR was just playing the background stuff, nothing more annoying then hearing 2 music sources at ounce.
Great idea. I have a mini DJ setup which attaches to the iPad. It's actually fun for people to try their hand at it. Easy pack as well. Good tips, I'll bring that along/
