Yes but how does other resort prices compare?

Mexico prices are different than USA prices.

They appear to be reasonably priced by Mexican standards.

However, I don't think they can justify significant price increases even with an upgraded resort.

I think the market for this is bigger than what is currently available in Cancun. I guess the owners feel the same.

I am not so sure it would work elsewhere, NA would either not allow it, would be too expensive or the climate wouldnt be right. Europe it wouldnt be anything new.

The best location for a new similar style resort would be Northern Australia imho.

Coolcat, I doubt that the De La Pena family (who own the resort) would take on a project like this without planning it out far ahead. Which is why I personally am optimistic

We did this last November in the Poconos with 14 people, great house in the woods.

This year we found a 9,000 square foot home in Philadelphia with indoor pool and hot tub. Got 20 TTR friends to join us! Unfortunately is won't be as warm as Cancun and no Boobs Cruise-but I'm sure we have fun!

It's something to consider when the resort is shut down or for a quick weekend get together when you can't head all the way to Cancun!

With the benefit of 20/20 hindsight it is easy to see this.
Odd though that it was ok to 'shoot the early messenger'
All the early distant warning signs were aligned and plain to see that GOV horse was not gonna win place or show.

Being a journalism grad and a big newspaper junkie....I am curious, is this a daily newspaper or weekly, broadsheet or tabloid and what page is this story on?
I assume it is not the front page

Why don't other resorts in Cancun make something like Temptation?

I would think it would be highly profitable. This is the only thing that baffles me about the adult "spring break" market. It appears to be a highly profitable niche market, yet other attempts at making an adult resort of similar nature always seem to fail.

    Don't understand it.

My guess would be that corporate types (yes, even in Mexico) are inherently too conservative too let the horses run, so to speak. They are too concerned with offending the wrong guests. Look at the Temptation reviews on Trip Advisor. They pay more attention to that than to something like CCC. It's a classic case of myopia.

This appears like a very risky move. Closing the resort for 10 months (could become longer) will alienate alot of people who will try other places. People who aren't totally sold on Temptation might decide other places are better during their next vacation.

I don't get why they are doubling room capacity considering they are infrequently sold out at half the number of rooms.

The only silver lining is that you will get a newer place to stay when it reopens.

I don't think they will change the theme because they need to to survive. Even with an upgraded resort, they still have a bad beach in an undesirable portion of cancun.

If they become "family friendly" or raise prices too much, they will be in trouble. I don't think they are competitive with other more attractive resorts if they become "family friendly".

I hope they realize this and don't try to change things too much.

They probably should have done the major rebuild right after hurricane Wilma. They made a lot of improvements then, but the changes were mostly cosmetic. To demolish the central part of the hotel now and build a new tower will take more than 10 months. I certainly wouldn't enjoy a vacation in the middle of a construction site, it's bad enough when they are tearing out tile in the room next door or grinding paint off walls above you. Change has to come to everything, we just hope that the place we call our second home doesn't turn into a Frankenstein monster and lose the special feeling we get there with all our friends and staff.
