We did GOV in March last year and found a very very similar atmosphere to TTR, a better beach by FAR, better rooms by FAR, yet it wasnt TTR topless, just enough to to make it fun and yet tasteful, and less $$. Seems it dropped off in April and then my May it was over.. Its our opinion that this can be duplicated in another resort quite easily, just takes a group of fun people.

I agree with you..out of Minneapolis its always cheap to go to Cancun and TTR as its the #1 international destination for winter getaways for Minnesotans (prolly Wisconsin too) and you know our winters are long. There are so many flight options to Cancun and its actually cheaper for us the past 2 years than 4 years ago

We had/heard so many complaints about GOV when we were there in April, I can count them.

But it is true. We met several TTR'ers and had a good time because of them. Didnt care for the way the resort was ran. Service was horrible, windows leaked water to the point of it standing on the floor, no a/c in the buffet, etc.

Like I said...our small group had fun, just wasnt enough of us to create that same vibe we all like at TTR.

How small of a market can it be?

Considering there is no competition for this market segment, I would think it would be very lucrative to open up a hotel for this segment.

Temptation did very well despite being an old resort on a crappy beach.

Imagine how much better this concept would do somewhere else?

Is the resort full only 6 to 8 weeks a year?

Increasing to 800 rooms seems insane. Don't get the logic of this move.

Hope they don't chance it totally.

    I genuinely believe it Marshe.

There was a lot of potential if they had the commitment to it, which I think they had initially but lost early doors due to the sale - news of which didn't come out until months after the deal had been done.

The Oasis owner also didn't listen to the fantastic management he employed who knew exactly what to do but were refused. As is customary in Mexico, they did not learn of the hotel sale until the very last minute, and flogged a dead horse for months.

Lets say someone agrees to buy your car, for the price you are looking for. Are you going to bother putting new tyres on it and giving it a top valet service. Nope, you sell it for whatever the buyer agreed to without spending any extra money. That is what happened with GOV.

Yes but can it compete for that market?

It has a crappy beach and is located in a crappy part of Cancun.

Even with the upgrade, there are planty of other resorts that will out compete it on price point and location.

It requires the adult party concept to survive at its location.
