I could absolutely understand them adding 50-100 rooms. That would give them the capacity to not have to send people to Desire the way they do. but to double the capacity of the resort makes absolutely no sense if they plan on keeping it the same theme of resort. It will just never be full. The fact that they are "planning" on making it a 800 room resort concerns me that things will change drastically.
The resort is nowhere near full occupancy most months as it is now, even with all of us who love the place and concept. If they doubled the size of the resort, the number of us crazy fuckers isn't going to change enough to fill nearly 800 rooms. Why would they dump all this money into a new resort and not get it occupied. That would be poor business on there end.
I'm pretty sure that they have been doing their homework on this for a while. It's usually pretty full (especially in the 'onseason' months there). the clientelle (aka us) is happy as clams paying a decent price on an old proprety. For them to assume, I'm just spitballing here, a 50% rise in occupancy, especially in the first year or two after reopening with a shiny new complex I'm thinking is pretty reasonable. It might have made more sense if they had started out by building a new resort on an empty parcel of land and keeping the hotel we know now open, but again I am sure if that was a viable alternative they would have opted to go that route. May as well enjoy what we have while we can. And then make sure they don't go too mainstream when the new and improved Temptation opens!
Adding that many new rooms, they arent planning on just "us" keeping it profitable. So what will thy do to lure in more of "us"? Or will it be "us"...? Hate to say this, but I read not long ago that family friendly (read: screaming brats everywhere), is very profitable.
Somebody was saying the resort is overpriced right now. I don't see that at all. It's $200 a night ish. Around here that will get you an OK hotel room. Nothing fancy at all. In Mexico it gets you an ok hotel room, all the food you want and free drinks day and night along with some half assed entertainment. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I couldn't even go out drinking for an evening for $200 here. Never mind the hotel room and food.
Maybe GOV can go back to the TTR theme. It will probably work now if we all move over there. The grounds looked very nice! Just a thought!
