This is indeed a very ambitious project on the part of Original Resorts. I can't see the property only being closed for 6-10 months nor can I see this not resulting in a substantial price increase. I know some CCC folks think TTR is overpriced but are willing to pay for the atmosphere / people. I personally think the prices are very reasonable at present rates. Yes, we are members and our 2014 rates are $125 per couple per night low season but we have seen some deals in the $160-$180 per couple range. Not sure about you but I have stayed in less quality hotels for business for the same price or more and definitely not AI. Me thinks we (as TTR guests over all not just members) are getting a good deal for what we pay. Of course this is IMHO. Scott
Steve said something a while back that made me think, this is a quote from a thread that Jamie started a while back titled So.. what would you do if..... "My opinion is if any company thinks they can buy one of the oldest resorts in Cancun, in one of the least desirable locations and remove the only thing that it is popular for, and make a success of it then that would be a very brave acquisition." So maybe it will be all shiny and new with the remodeling but its still a shitty beach. Who goes to Cancun for a shitty beach? We do! We go for the fun, the people, the debauchery. If they put millions into it to it and take away the one thing that makes it amazing. That's just bad business and you don't own a successful 30 year old resort in Cancun if you are bad at business. Just my opinion. Nikki
As everyone here, we love going to TTR. But, you could have the exact same party, with the exact same people, if some other property would institute the SAME EXACT concept. The bonus would most likely be a much nicer stretch of beach. Some say GOV tried it. We went to GOV last April. No they didnt. It was nothing like TTR. Totally different atmosphere. Not for us. I guess the market seems larger than it actually is because of the number of people we see when we go. The "adults only, topless, adult spring break" market is probably pretty small compared to "normal" vacationers. WE DONT LIKE NORMAL VACATIONS!!! LOL
Just posted on one of the group pages on Facebook: "According to the report of the Newspaper Novedades Quintana Roo from Grupo Sipse Corporation of this October 14th, 2014; Original Resorts wants to inform that even though we are working in a long-term project since a few months ago, we still don’t have any official statement about this matter. We keep on working, and we are expecting to give an initial announcement at the 1st quarter of 2015."
They really need to hire a PR person who speaks English fluently. I'm a little disturbed that they wouldn't publicly comment on it at this point. I mean, is it fair to people who are booking vacations like us for next summer (June Junkies for example), even into Q1 2015, without the knowledge of whether the resort will be open or not? I, for one, would be incensed if I got moved to another property without my consent.
