We were at TTR last September 14th- 23rd 2013. At night at Paty O's our drinks made with vodka tasted like benzine. It wasn't just us, but others in our group noticed also. We ended up going across the street and buying vodka to mix with sprite. We did say something, but it didn't matter. Has anyone else had this problem? We're going to be there this year from 10 September till the 20th. We do plan on picking up a couple of bottles at duty free, just in case. What's your experience?
Our last visit was in feb. I did not notice that but I would add MIO to my vodka/water. See ya'll on the 15th! Hopefully we will be there in time to welcome ya'll back from Boobs Cruise.

One of my Rum & Coke's out of the 100 or so I drank in February had that kind of taste. I usually ask for Bacardi and Coke but this particular time I just said rum. I just figured it was a shit brand and moved on.
My wife and I also thought the vodka tasted funny the week after you were there last year. We kind of also think the soda tastes funny as well. We are pretty regular drinkers, so when something tastes slightly off, it is very noticeable to us. We didn't complain about it to anyone but each other. After hearing several people talk about it, we are bringing that MIO stuff, and this weekend I plan on doing several testing sessions! O and by the way, I also think the cigarettes taste funny down there. Damn this sensitive palate! This year I'm channeling my boy scout days and will be prepared.
I don't know what that taste like but I'm trying to imagine the smell of lighter fluid or paint thinner. I never tasted those either but if I smelled it in my drink you can believe my waiter or bartender would be tasting it too to back me up! That sounds nasty!
Ask for Sky or even Smirnoff. They will have one of them at every bar. The house vodka is Skol. Not the best stuff in the world.
We only drink Skyy and didn't have any problems. Even at home we drink Skyy because it's the ONLY vodka that doesn't' give us a hangover. And,if it's off we will definitely know the difference.
I too have had the odd drink that smells and tastes like rocket fuel - I notice straight away. The scientist in me would love to have that stuff analysed at a laboratory. As others mentioned, you should always ask for a brand name never ask for a generic whiskey, rum, or vodka ask for the known brands you see - Skyy/Smirnoff and coke etc
I have noticed the odd drink here or there tasting pretty rough. I figured it was the mix on the soda being a little weak though, not the vodka. I've tried all of the vodkas they serve and haven't noticed a big difference between any of them. I think the quality of the mixer counts.
