Having the good view is important to Annette and I. You are probably spending a couple of grand on the vaca, and why have a view of the road from your room. We stayed in one of the Jacuzzi rooms in April, and enjoyed it. Ours was in a great location up by the quiet pool bar, and some of of the Jacuzzi rooms are in awful locations tucked into a corner. Hit or miss with the Jacuzzi rooms. The best rooms and location are the couple of Jacuzzi Suites that are right on the ocean. Not much chance for putting on a balcony show there for anyone there as there is no one on the beach, but the view if the best at the resort.

We always get a basic room as we find ourselves spending little time in it while we are there.

I don't care about the room. The party is outside. Only gonna sleep 3-4 hours each night.

Here are pictures of two different "deluxe ocean view" rooms which will more than likely be in Building 1, but be aware that they are not "ocean front":

We like to have a nice view and we've had good luck with the rooms on the back end of PatyO's. Both times now we've booked the basic "garden" room and when we check in we ask if we can see a couple of rooms. Both times we've had rooms that at least have some sort of ocean view (including one with a view of the back of the Sexy pool).

The only issue with these rooms is that you will hear the music from PatyO's at night (not an issue for us as we normally stay up until the music is about done anyways)...another advantage is being able to run up to your room at night since you're so close to the dance floor. :)

Here's a pic from our room the last time we stayed there.

We've learned that the key is to keep asking for a different room if you don't like the one you have...also helps to go during off-season (less busy and more chance of a better room) and arriving earlier helps.

We had a great room by PatyO's with a great view but to be honest, we never sat out there cause we was always in the pool. The only issue was that we had to stay up cause of the music for the club. Next time just a little further away from PatyO's.

You will not spend that much time in your room.

We just use the room for a place to crash. If there are any exceptionaly nice rooms we've never stayed in one. Everything is just okay. I doubt you'll be in the room very much.

Last year they gave us a room in the apartment-like zone and it was very bad. I talked to the concierge and he kindly showed us a few more rooms until we decided on an ocean view room near the italian restaurant. That was a pretty good room with standard features but way better than the first one they assigned to us.

Everytime we travel to a new place, we book a night in each room that we're interested in, starting with the nicest (ie. the suite) first. That way, we get to see all rooms we were curious about, and next time, we know exactly what we want.

Now, 75% of the time that we do this, the hotel/resort just keeps in the first room, since they can easily sell the other (more affordable) rooms and would rather not deal with moving you. Same thing happened at TTR our first few years, and we ended up having the Temptation Suite for the entire 2 weeks, while paying the ocean-view room price ;)

That said, for our last few trips, we stick with the Jacuzzi Suite rooms on the quiet pool side. We like having the balcony on the ground floor that faces the path so we can put on shows and meet new people :)

bonus tip: take a picture of the fire escape/floor plans when you get there, so you know exactly which room number to request next time
