You can count us in. If we can get a few confirmed and narrow the price down that would be great. Also, although i really hate getting up early on vacation it would be nice to kick this off sooner so we could get back for dinner and evening fun IMHO I think I read somewhere Steve recommended a 7 to 8am kick off…(ouch lol)
We've posted this many times - Hire a Private van - we did USA Transfers with 3-couples. Ask them to bring a ice chest along, they will. Take it to the breakfast buffet and ask the bartender to fill it with ice. Fill it with water, soda & beer from your rooms. Stockpile a few days prior to going or tip your maid for some extras. Pick up time should be 8am with departure no later than 8:30am. It's 2.5 - 3hrs. Your driver might stop at a small mini-mart for a bathroom break, beverage, a snack, and some quick shopping. The big tour buses arrive around 12:30-1pm, and its hard to get good pics with so many people around. When you arrive at the ruins - do not go on Sunday, Sunday is free for all MX citizens, your driver will ask if you want a guide. Hire the guide, seriously, no point in going unless you hire the guide. It's $75 for about 75 minutes. Tell your driver to hire a person who tours with a tablet computer - informative, lots of close up pics, and you can ask non-stop questions. Ensure you add on the Ik Kil cenote & buffet lunch - Its a 5-minute drive from Chichen Itza and it is so damn hot & humid that deep in the jungle you will be ready for a swim. Lunch is OK, drinks are not included so bring some cash for drinks + tip - it's air conditioned inside so a welcome change from the hot humidity. Your driver might be a bit pushy on time spent at each place, ignore him. Take your time - you've hired him for the day. So after your tour guide, go wander around the ruins - lots of walking to do. So many vendors who sell stuff as well, you can bargain them down pretty far. Same goes with Ik Kil, take your time. Jump off the platforms, get some good pics, enjoy the ambiance. You will return about 6pm which is plenty of time to head to the pool, have a drink with your friends and then go to dinner and be ready for the nightly entertainment. Most of the group will nap on the 2.5hr drive back. One other tip - ensure your van has a stereo/radio, its a long drive without music. Its something you have to do once - see our pics.
Thats the feed back I was looking for! Thanks for the tips. I think we need to do it at least once like you said.
We will let everyone know by tomorrow. Amanda has been working her butt off so she has been unavailable. Working 4 12 hour days in a row can take it out of you. But it sounds awesome.
Some tips: (1) Take towel and something to wear during swimming in one of those beautiful ik-kil cenote. A must place to see if you are going to Chichen itza. (2) As suggested take water and some juice with you, you can of-course buy there but it will cost extra money. I was thirsty and i paid around 4$ for a bottle of Vitamin water. (3) Take sunglasses+Cap if you have it (otherwise you can buy it in 5$ as a momento from there), because it is going to be hot and sunny in the open area of chichen itza (4) If you want to buy gift stuff, then bargain, otherwise you can buy it from market 28 in cancun too. (5) Your tour bus may stop at location for you to buy gift items and lunch, but it will be very expensive. I purchased shot glass in 10$ which is available in market 28 or chichen itza in half price, so better go and have a look at market 28, it itself is an experience and you will like it, that way you will know what you can buy from 28 and what you can't. Enjoy your tour!!!
We won't know till we get there. We have a cenote dive tentatively scheduled for Friday so we are on the fence (we've done Chichen Itza before, it's great). When do we need to let everyone know?
The sooner the better, but we can book it even 1 or 2 days prior if we have everyone ready to book and pay.
I think this one tanked. We just arrived, recovering a day before the Boobs Cruise but if there are a few people interested find us before Thursday evening otherwise we will just book a normal tour .
