Does anyone knows what an average bartender or server makes in resort. I was in TTR for a week and always wonder how much those hardworking staff makes in a week. They works so hard and remember the need of each and every guest, if most of their pay is from tips then I can say they do hell of a job for such a small money. I know most people after coming back from TTR vacation, misses their friends, party and TTR lifestyle, but I equally miss the service and hospitality too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Between 5 to 10 dollars a day.... closer to the 5 range. You are right, they live on what they get from tips. Even though tips are included in the price of the hotel, by the time it reaches the average bartender, after everyone above them has taken their "cut" they get about 60 cents per guest per stay. Even the tips you give them at the bar have to be shared with their Captain and split evenly among every one on the shift. So tip often and tip heavy. But never doubt the outstanding service you will get even if you don’t tip. They don’t base their service on how you tip.. but on how you go about your life. They are like mirrors, if you say hi and learn their names, your drink will be waiting for you when you walk up. If you snap your fingers calling for Paco to get you a drink.. well they will wait for Paco to take care of you… oh.. there is no bartender named Paco working at TTR. Jamie
Dont know how much they make exactly. Do know the cost of living is far less than here in the U.S. Talked to a couple of bartenders at length about incomes, cost of living, etc..., and most do "ok" for that area. I understand that thier "ok" and ours are vastly different. I did see one of the better known bartenders at TTR drive up out front in a newer black Yukon with blacked out windows. They also said as far as resort jobs, TTR is tops in desirable places to work based on tips. They also said they could care less if they get pesos or dollars. Its "no problem, cause money is money". Having said all that, the service at TTR is better than any other resort we've been to, bar none.
Didn't know they make so less in salaries. I seen no matter if someone tip or not, they serve with smile and no waiting. By day two, all bartenders of sexy pool and pattyo knew my drink. Of course I am hard shooter, and only one choice scotch on rocks, but it was impressive to see their memory and attention they give to guest's need, at least they impressed me and earned well deserved tips from me. Next trip, I am planning to get some personal gift for them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Two points about the staff I always hope people think about... First - I'd never think of ordering a drink at a bar at home without tipping each time I'm served...and the same holds true at Temptation. It's the right thing to do...and as a side benefit, when the bar is busy, the bar tenders tend to recognize those who tip and I seem to get great service even when the bar is packed with thirsty people. The same goes for housekeeping and any other employee who provides great service with a smile. Also, nothing makes me feel worse than when I notice some self-important jacka$$ treating some staff member like crap by being rude, condescending, impatient and forgetting to say thank you...or gracias. They're always smiling...even when they're not having the best day. Just smile back and treat them how you'd want to be treated.
Couldn't agree more, but it was sad to see that only 1 out of 10 tip them. Sometime when I sit at bar, I noticed, specially those group of party people who are taking 20 glass of taquila for their group, leaves not even a dollar, they are so busy partying that they forget the exceptional service provided by these bartenders happily. It is thumb rule in my area, at least a dollar a drink tip and tip for every drink, and for your last drink you tip big. I followed the same rule there except when I was drunk, then I don't know if tip or tip a lot lol and then in return I get my drinks in my hand within seconds without even speaking a word. Not all that glitters is gold.... as in if you ever watch me go to the bar you will rarely ever see me tip... because I tip at the end of my stay.. so not everyone not tipping is a jerk suspect. But everyone that doesn't tip at somepoint is indeed a jerk. Jamie
But if you tip in beginning or at some point before the end of tip, then it will get you better service, because in no way that server will know that you will tip at the end, unless you tell them when you get your drinks time. In a way that looks fishy or a technique lot of people play to skip tips. I am not saying you are one of them, but it my personal experience based on my past job where I was at the receiving end.
