I'm curious if anyone else had problems the night of Friday July 18th (White night) at Paty O's. It started off being a great night as usual. I was drinking canned beers (unopened) that friends brought down who were leaving the next day. We were all doing a few shots here and there and I decided to start drinking a little bit of water to ensure I didn't get to drunk to fast. I got the water from the water jug at the Paty O bar. I then had some friends of friends bring me a beer who we had spent a little bit of time with. After a short amount of time I suddenly started feeling much drunker (is that a word) than I should have. I figured I would drink more water and take it easy for awhile. I started feeling worse and noticed I could no longer walk straight and this is highly unusual for myself even after being very drunk. I told my wife I was going to go up to the room and lay down for a bit. She came back to the room later and I woke up. I could barely move at this time. I felt like I had no muscle control and a hard time forming words/sentences. I got up to use the bathroom and could barely walk at this point. I knew this wasn't from drinking to much. Alcohol has never done this to me and I've never done any drugs (weed doesn't count). I'm pretty confident I was somehow drugged and it either came from the water at Paty O or the friend of a friend who gave me the beer. The few shots I had were from friends and I know they were safe. If someone had spiked the water I figured I would post on here and see if anyone else had a problem that night or possibly last week. If it was from the friend of friend then I'm shocked and very surprised they would do something like this. Any other thoughts? I/we still had a great time last week and it didn't ruin our vacation (just my night).
It wasn't medical, like a stroke or heart attack possibly? You may considering having that looked into for safety sake. SW&TW
I highly doubt this was the case. I'm in my early 30s and very healthy. It felt more like a strong muscle relaxer or possibly date rape drug. I googled and found Rohypnol as a date rape drug and these were the effects I had. What's really scary is this drug is legal in Mexico. The effects of Rohypnol can be felt within 30 minutes of being drugged and can last for several hours. If you are drugged, you might look and act like someone who is drunk. Muscle relaxation or loss of muscle control Difficulty with motor movements Drunk feeling Problems talking I guess you can never be to careful. I just wish I knew how it happened because we are normally careful.
No one is going to waste drugs on you for no reason dude sorry but you probably just drank too much. Sometimes it just hits ya hard If you got roophied by accident like maybe someone spiked a water they intended for someone else maybe... But you wouldn't remember anything either
We always bring covered cups to reduce the risk. You can never be too careful. Dehydration can sneak up on you in the tropics ( quicker with shots) and the effects can resemble what you describe . Questionable incidents pop up about every six months and its good to keep are guard up and keep an eye out for our friends and group. Reporting them is also good to warn others to be careful. .
Drew: That must have been a frightening feeling, regardless of what it was. In any case, thank you for sharing. I'm going on my own to TTR (second time there, but first time solo) in a couple of months and it's a good reminder to keep my eye on my drink at all times.
Glad to hear you are ok, no matter what happened. Even though as a guy you wouldn't think you'd get drugged it doesn't mean that you didn't drink something that was spiked for someone else, or just got unlucky as some people do it for shits and giggles, to see people get taken down by one of those drugs. sounds like a good reminder for us all to keep our guards up.
