We used coconut oil on our last trip along with an SPF. Having different skin types as we do, we found using the coconut oil he did not burn as he would have by just using sun tan lotion with a high SPF. We also used the coconut oil as a moisturize gotta keep the tan and skin moisturized otherwise you will only start to peel. We use it at home on our son who has very fair skin and he no longer burns in the sun. This a great article to read about suntan lotions and so forth Avoid Harmful Sunscreen Ingredients With Natural SunscreenPeak Health Advocate
This is interesting. I love coconut oil for my hair so I can only assume it would do a great job on skin too. Hubby burnt pretty bad back in February. So I think I would use it more of an after sun lotion and stick with a high SPF durning the day but that could just be me.
You're local health food store should have it. There is a company called young loving essential oils that sells it also. We LOVE using different natural oils! And yes lavender does the same thing. If you google foods and oils with natural SPF you'll see that there are a TON of them out there you can use
Ok so second sunny Saturday and tried the coconut oil again (yes we ended up getting slippery again):69::aktion031: Again I digress . we know it works as a great slippery lube , were converted as far a sunscreen when were naked . Does anyone know if because its an oil it will damage the elastic in swimwear . Regular sun oils that are oil based do as the elastic looses its stretch when the oil breaks down the rubber in the elastic . I wonder if this will be the case with coconut oil ? Any ideas coconut gurus ?:flash::flash:
It definitely darkens the tan quickly, but I will have to put some carrot seed oil in it or lavender because I did get burned a little but it did not peel and I am pretty dark. I guess if you are going to tan in the natural it makes sense to tan with the natural enhancers or blockers. Now just keeping it for 4 weeks...... Do not know about the elastic deterioration problems definitely will have to leave that to the Coconut gurus.
Coconut oil definitely makes our shorts fall off, don't know why...-; ), foe your question, never seen her bikinis get damaged, FYI.
Definitely understand the shorts falling off, having that same problem..... :aktion033: And did not notice the elastic on her bikinis at the house but usually not one on..... It's all good.......
I'm so going to try this - thanks everyone for all the information. I've been using Coconut Oil on a few scars/stretch marks etc., and know about the vast benefits but never thought to use it as a tanning lotion ... very excited to test it out!! :icon_razz:
We've been oil pulling with it! We've seen a huge difference since doing that. Have you ever tried it? It helps with everything! It helps whiten your teeth, helps with acne, stress, depression, so much!
