Hi everyone! I'm new here and planning my first trip to Cancun. I'm on a pretty tight budget but want to visit the historical ruins of Tulum. The tours are way expensive so I've decided to try to do this try on my own. Doesn't anyone happen to know the current bus fare from Cancun HZ to Tulum? Also, any other tips are greatly appreciated! Muchos gracias! :lotsofmichaelfs:
to do this on the cheap you'll need to catch a r1 bus to downtown, the cost for this bus is 9.5 pesos, about 80 cents us. then catch a bus to tulum from the ado bus station, about 100 pesos or 8 dollars us'
Check out the bus fares and schedules on the ADO Bus website. It looks like it is $124 Peso. Be sure when going to Tulum that you are careful with your destination and where you are returning from. There is a bus to and from Tulum city and another to and from the Archaeological Zone. The prices are the same and it is the same bus so you should be fine as you can get off the bus early at the Archaeological Zone. Though it is possible that a bus going to Tulum City won't stop at the Archaeological Zone. Returning could also be a problem though if you are in Tulum City but bought a round trip from the Archaeological Zone or vice versa if you are at the Archaeological Zone and have a ticket from Tulum City and the bus doesn't stop at the Archaeological site. ETA: We did this exact trip last year. You can read about is starting in post #28 of this thread over on TUG. We too were on a budget and did the trip to the Archaeological Site for about $65USD for two people, lunch not included. Check our Post #29 for our cost breakdown.
Sweet! Very good info dioxide45! I'll check out the thread you recommended. Thanks! BTW, there isn't an English version of the ADO site is there? I finished reading your post on the timeshare forum, very good details about Tulum, thanks for sharing! I'm saving that entire page on my phone for reference because I won't have mobile voice or data out there.
I use Google Chrome which translates the ADO Bus website for me. I only use it to find fares and buy the actual tickets at the bus station.
yeah. and ticket counter attendants at cancun are english speakers. at tulum ticket counter, they understood even if i talk to them in english. have fun in tulum, it's such a beautiful place!
