Bangor, Maine is the closest US airport to us and it's about a 4 hour drive. We have considered it but it has to be at the right price for the inconvience. We will be flying out of Fredericton. It's a tiny airport that only has flights to Toronto, Montreal, Halifax, and St. John's. We are going to keep looking.

We fly out of Calgary connect in Houston; go thru customs- collect baggage and check it, once again, and then head for the connector flight - worked like a charm our last trip w/ no issues ... is it a slight pain in the ass - sure, but we r heading to TTR, so who gives a shit LOL!!! :mnm:

Seriously, it really wasn't all that bad, but I can only speak to our experience based on our connection ... our arrival time to Houston was/is 11:45am departing for Mexico at 1:10ish (same terminal) but Houston has the tram; unsure what this looks like for other airports.

    Hope this helps ... :aktion025:

We flew back from Jamaica last year and had purchased some rum creame at the airport in Negril so when we arrived in Charlotte we had to recheck everything and put the rum creame in the checked bag !! What a pain in the :ass:

Just so you are aware, hubby just flew into Newark and the tram that takes your from one terminal to another is shut down and under construction for the summer, you may need to allow time to get from plane to whatever transportation they are using to get you from one terminal to another, to luggage claim then through security again.

I "think" it's not customs, I believe it's airlines trying to move people around in the way most convenient and economical to THEM, the plane people.

I'd say just layover here in Houston and we could party a night, then you could get up from a hangover from my house and go tot he airport, but I bet that you can't fly to Houston straight either.

We usually fly out of Toronto which is an hour from our house we do have an airport 10 minutes from the house, so why fly out of Toronto. We can't get a direct flight out of that airport. The nice thing about flying out of Toronto we can arrive in Cancun in about 4 hours we thought about driving to Buffalo but the flight went to Chicago then to St. Louis then Houston and finally into Cancun with all the layovers it would have been an almost 10 hour day just to get to Cancun, for a big saving of $100 for the two of us and we want to be on the resort as quickly as we can. One thing not mentioned and not knowing if you smoke or not, but if you smoke and like the occasional cigar and they happen to be of the Cuban variety if you do happen to fly into the US be prepared to have them confiscated. They may be legal here but not there.
